The Semiotic Standard For All Commercial Trans-Stellar Utility Lifter And Heavy Element Transport Spacecraft. (shortened to just "Semiotic Standard")[1] was used in the film Alien in the ship Nostromo. It is a set of 34 symbols used to represent various concepts in the ship such as "coffee" or "radiation hazard". The original set included 31 symbols and was designed by Ron Cobb.[2]
Colour Scheme[edit]
Red: Viable, Sound, Alive, Alertness
White/Grey: Life-supporting condition, pressure, temperature
Black: Vacuum, Death, Hazard
Yellow: Harmful, Active process, Molecular, Heat, Radioactive, Chemical
Blue: Lowered thermal condition
Green: Non-human organic substance.
