Seth M.R. Jaipuria School, otherwise known as the Jaipuria School of Lucknow is a co-educational institution imparting Pre-primary, Primary, Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (age group 3 plus to 17 plus) through English as the medium of instruction. The school has been ranked 9th in the "most respected secondary schools" in India in 2007.[1] It also teaches Sanskrit from class 1 to class 8 and oral in Kindergarten.

The school draws its name from Padmabhooshan[2] Seth Mungtu Ram Jaipuria, a philanthropist and industrialist who played a dominant role in the industrialisation of the nation after independence. Founded by his son, Sharad Jaipuria in 1992,[3] the school is run under the aegis of Integral Education Society, Kanpur. Mr P. Arvindakshan was the Founder Principal (1992-2009).

Shri Sharad Jaipuria, Chairman and Managing Director of Ginni International Ltd. New Delhi is the Chairman of the school.[4] The management of the School comes under the purview of Integral Education Society, Kanpur of which he is the President. Another institution managed by the Integral Education society, is Jaipuria Institute of Management and this functions on the same campus.

The first principal of the institution was Mr. P. Arvindakshan (1992-2009) and after him was Mrs Anju Wal (2009-2015). The Vice Principal is Dr. Anupam Vidyarthi. The Administrative Officer is Mr. Surendra Pandey.

Special features[edit]

The school also has some features that are usually not available in other schools in Lucknow :

  • It teaches Sanskrit from first class.
  • It has a large swimming pool.
  • It has activity periods in which the students can choose their activity from a wide range like metal work, glass painting, carpentary, dramatics, debate, AMU, quiz, etc.

The school prepares students for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (Year 10) and the Indian School Certificate (Year 12) Examinations. Preparing the students for the Cambridge School Certificate, UK and IB (International Baccalaureate), Geneva is under consideration.

House system[edit]

The children are divided into four houses - Ganga (red), Narmada (blue), Krishna (green) and Godavari (yellow). Inter-house competitions are held, like debate, elocution, creative writing, athletics, sports and the PT drill competition. At the end of the year, the house with the maximum number of points is awarded the Jaipuria trophy(also known as the house trophy). The house trophy for the academic session 2015-16 went to the Ganga house.

Student startups[edit]

The students started the first Indian chapter of Global Zero, the international movement for nuclear disarmament, in December 2012.[5] [6]
