Shein (stylized in all caps as SHEIN) is a Chinese women's online fashion retailer founded by Chris Xu in Guangzhou in 2008. It currently serves over 220 countries.[3] The company is known for its cheaply priced apparel which is made directly in China, targeted mostly for all younger females aged from 16 to 34 years old.

History

Shein was founded in Nanjing, China in 2008. The brand's original website was Sheinside.com.

By 2013 Shein had 100 employees, and had already established their product headquarters in Guanghzou, China from which Shein uses an agile supply chain system known as "real-time retail".[4]

In 2018, the company was sued by Levi Strauss & Co. for copying a trademarked jean stitching. The case was settled out of court.[5]

In June 2020, it was banned in India citing privacy concerns. In July 2020, a controversial necklace with a swastika was reported and pulled from sale (the brand clarified that it was a Buddhist swastika, not a Nazi swastika).[6] On 17 May 2021, it was the most downloaded Shopping app in the U.S.[7][8]
