Social verbs in online games are gestures that do not change the meaning of an object. They provide characters non-verbal communication in MUD, MOO or MMOGs.
For example, a character may ::wave:: as a gesture, but other characters are not compelled to respond.
Online games and some social software provide a richer form of expression than emoticons common in instant messaging sessions.
