The Southern Daily (Chinese: 南方日报; pinyin: Nánfāng Rìbào) is the official Guangdong Communist Party newspaper. The paper was started in 1949. It is sister to the more lively and commercial Southern Metropolis Daily and part of the giant Nanfang Media Group.
This Guangzhou-based family of papers are known to possess superior reporting and higher level of frankness than many PRC mainstream press outlets.
