The president-elect of the United States is the common or honorific title accorded to the person who hasconclusively appears to have won a presidential election in the United States, but who has yet to take the oath of office as President, which takes place at their inauguration. If the result of an election is disputed, no person is normally referred to as president-elect until the dispute is resolved.

The only constitutional provision pertaining directly to the person who has won the presidential election is their availability to take the oath of office.
