Steve Margolis is an American horse trainer.

Biography

Margolis was born on September 8, 1963 in New York City. After he graduated from high school he worked at Belmont Park where he used to take care of the horses for the Hall of Fame trainer John Veitch. In the 1990s he worked for Pat Byrne and Howie Tesher and later on for Stanley Hough. In 1997 he went to Kentucky with Stanley himself as an assistant and in 2000 became a horse trainer himself. On September 15, 2000 he won his first race by riding the horse named Her Great Affair at Turfway Park. In 2002, he received another horse named Request for Parole who later on was sold to Jeri and Sam Knighton. Due to his training that horse both Turfway Park's WEBN and John Battaglia Memorial Stakes. The same year it came third in Lane's End Spiral Stakes and got into the fifth place at the Kentucky Derby. In 2003, a horse named Baileys Edge won the Mr. Prospector Handicap at the Gulfstream Park. The same year, Cajun Beat brought Margolis Kentucky Cup Sprint win at the Turfway Park and also a win at the Breeders' Cup Sprint. The same horse finished at fourth at Golden Shaheen in Dubai and later on was sold. Later on he was other horses to train such as Pickapocket, Country Day, Cool Bullet, Northern Belle and Lady Chace all of which he had between 2009 and 2010.
