Superman & Lois is an upcoming American superhero television series developed for The CW by Todd Helbing and Greg Berlanti, based on the DC Comics character Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch star as the titular characters Clark Kent / Superman, a costumed superhero, and Lois Lane, a journalist for the Daily Planet. The series will be set in the Arrowverse, sharing continuity with the other television series of the franchise.

The series was announced in October 2019 and was ordered to series in January 2020. Filming is expected to occur from October 2020 until May 2021. Superman & Lois is scheduled to premiere in January 2021.

Premise

The series sees Clark Kent / Superman and Lois Lane "deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society."[1]

Development

The series was announced in October 2019 and will be executive produced by Todd Helbing, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schecter and Geoff Johns with Helbing penning the script for the series.[1] On January 14, 2020, The CW officially ordered Superman & Lois to series.[10] The first season will consist of 13 episodes.[3]

Casting

Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch were signed on to reprise their roles as Clark Kent and Lois Lane from Supergirl.[1] In February 2020, Jordan Elsass and Alexander Garfin were cast as Clark and Lois' sons Jonathan Kent and Jordan Kent, respectively.[2] In April, Dylan Walsh was cast as Samuel Lane. Walsh replaces Glenn Morshower, who previously recurred in the role on Supergirl.[3] Emmanuelle Chriqui was also cast as Lana Lang,[4] along with Erik Valdez as Kyle Cushing.[5] The next month, Wolé Parks was cast as the Stranger while Inde Navarrette was cast as Sarah Cushing.[6][7]

Filming

Production on the pilot was expected to begin on March 23, 2020, in Vancouver, British Columbia, and conclude on May 14.[11] However, on March 13, 2020, plans to shoot a pilot were scrapped due to the COVID-19 pandemic and instead the series is expected to start production "closer to a more traditional show start date in June or July".[12][13] In late July 2020, Warner Bros. Television planned for their Vancouver-based series to restart production in late August.[14] Filming is scheduled to begin on October 13, 2020 and conclude on May 1, 2021.[15] The series will be filmed on location in Surrey, British Columbia.[16][17]

Release
