List of Survivor (U.S. TV series) episodes

Survivor: Island of the Idols is the upcoming 39th season of the American competitive reality television series Survivor, that airs on CBS in the United States and Global in Canada. This season was announced by CBS on May 15, 2019 - the same day as the Survivor: Edge of Extinction finale.[2]

Sandra Diaz-Twine, winner of Survivor: Pearl Islands and Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains, and Rob Mariano, winner of Survivor: Redemption Island, will return to the game as mentors living on the Island of the Idols, but otherwise not part of the tribal competition or eligible for the million-dollar prize.[3] This will be the seventh consecutive season (eighth overall) to be filmed in Fiji.

It is also expected to be the first season to feature castaways from Canada, since the casting process opened for Canadians in mid-2018.[4]

Production[edit]

The twist for this season with mentors living on the Island came from production's brainstorming of how they can bring back popular past Survivor contestants like Mariano and Diaz-Twine who had expressed no interest in playing Survivor again. Production created the idea of making them a part of the game but not as players, instead offering their personal experiences and advice to new players.[5] The two will be similarly surviving as the contestants, though will have better initial supplies and more time for constructing their shelter and feeding themselves.[3]
