Surya Pratap Shahi

Surya Pratap Shahi is a leader of Bharatiya Janata Party from Uttar Pradesh. He was a member of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Kasia assembly segment in Deoria (later Kushinagar) district for three terms, with representation during 1985-1989; 1991-1993; 1996-2002. Shahi served as cabinet minister in the Government of Uttar pradesh for two terms. He is one of distinguished leaders who won election in 1984 despite indira lahar after assassination of Indira Gandhi in 1984. He first served as State Minister for Home in 1991, with an elevation to Cabinet rank, with Health portfolio in 1992. In 1997, he was inducted as a cabinet minister with Excise as the portfolio. In Uttar Pradesh where election is being fought on casteline. He is one prominent leader of uttar pradesh who has developed karyakarta in each castes even in OBCs like kushwaha, yadav etc and in S.C. like pasi, jatav etc. despite these castes are core supporters of either SP or BSP is Uttar Pradesh.

He was president of the Uttar Pradesh state unit. Shahi completed his 12th in 1969 from S.S.B.L. Inter College, Deoria, Graduation in 1971 from B.R.D.P.G. College, Deoria, & LLB in 1974 from B.H.U.. Shahi was part of the student union in BHU and was popular leader. Shahi was introduced into RSS by his late father Rajendra Kishore Shahi and he has been RSS swayamsevak from the age of 6. During the period of emergency while all his family members were hunted down and jailed, and he despite being a student at BHU he had arrest warrant against him, his room was Kurki -sealed and later MISA was imposed upon him. Shahi was married in 1973 to Srimati Rani Shahi. He has three children a son and two daughters.
