Copyright violation material removed[edit]

I have checked this page against [1], and found that at least the "war cry" information is an obvious copy/paste in violation of copyright. I have reverted to a version previoius to this additon (December 6). --Alvestrand 16:42, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Third Afghan War battle honour[edit]

I've deleted the lines about the Afghanistan NWF 1919 battle honour being awarded until it can be cited. Other Indian Army and Indian States Forces units awarded this honour were all awarded in 1926/7 by which time it was not policy to award honours to disbanded units. The award to other units was made in 3 Governor General's orders and I haven't seen 11th Rifles mentioned in any of them. Had the unit still existed I'm sure the award would have been made but as it stands I don't think it was. NtheP (talk) 18:43, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Battle Honours of the British and Commonwealth Armies (p. 310) confirms that the Third Afghan War honour ("Afghanistan 1919") was awarded to all eleven of the Gurkha regiments - 1st through 11th. Shimgray | talk | 19:05, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's Baker's book? Rodger's Battle Honours of the British and Commonwealth Land Forces (almost same name of book confusingly) doesn't mention the 11th and does make specific mention that it was not policy to award honours to disbanded units. This is Baker, yes. He gives the honour as also awarded to 50th Kumaon Rifles (disb. 1923), 112nd (disb. 1923), and 150th to 154th Infantry inclusive (all disb. 1922). No specific sources cited, though.
Incidentally, he also notes that the 11th Gurkhas also saw service in Iraq 1920/1 and Waziristan 1919-1923, neither of which were honoured. Shimgray | talk | 20:16, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So you're saying this only applies to 11 Gurkha? Because my understanding is that 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9 AND 11 Gurkha were all in the British Indian Army and transferred to the Indian Army after Independence. And yes, I can require. No, this only applies to the 11th Gorkha Rifles because it was not in the British Indian Army and did not transfer to the Indian Army at Independence. It was formed in the Indian Army post-1947. Hamish59 (talk) 13:03, 27 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
