"Optimistic"[edit]

It's true that the full rigor of Oceania's totalitarian system in Orwell's novel is somewhat relaxed after the death of Big Brother, but it's difficult to describe the book as truly "optimistic", since the resulting system is still rather repressive, and the progression of the narrator's footnotes throughout the book reveals that the situation in Eurasia is not too satisfactory either... "Sequel"[edit]
