Merger[edit]

These pages should be merged per WP:MILMOS#UNITNAME, which states that an article about a unit, formation, or base should be placed at "Name (optional disambiguator)". The name should generally be the official name used by the armed forces to which the unit or base belongs. When a unit or base has had multiple names over the course of its existence, the title should y be the last name used. No exception applies, the subject is not clearly more commonly known a previous names, nor would the merged article be excessively long. --Lineagegeek (talk) 23:03, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

In the process of merger, I am finding in the 1st Aerospace article a lot of things like Lt Bill Smith saw this, so he talked with John Jones and John . . . I have edited out the personal stuff (and there are some personalty issues on using the names of non-public figures without permission that argue for doing so). Also am eliminating the references to "1st Aero". In addition to the issue that this is not an official name, nor one widely used outside the squadron, it risks confusion with the 1st Aero Squadron. --Lineagegeek (talk) 23:12, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Commanders[edit]

The following long lists of commanding officers were removed from the two articles merged. There is no showing of notability for these officers, and lists of commanders at this level are not usual, difficult to maintain, and add little to the article.

Removed from the 1st Space Operations Squadron article:

Commanders[edit]

  • Lt Col Allen Payne (?–1992)
  • Lt Col Robert "Bob" Hooten (Colonel, Ret) (1992–1994)
  • Lt Col Evan "Hoops" Hoapili (Colonel, Ret) (1994–1996)
  • Lt Col John "Jack" Anthony (Colonel, Ret) (1996–1998)
  • Lt Col Burke E. Wilson (July 2002 – July 2003)[1]
  • Lt Col Steven Lootens
  • Lt Col Craig Bloomberg
  • Lt Col Erik Eliason (2007-2009)
  • Lt Col Che Bradley (2009-2011)
  • Lt Col Mike Manor (2011-2013)
  • Lt Col Toby Doran (2013-2015)
  • Lt Col Casey Beard (2015-2017)
  • Lt Col Mark Bigley (Current)
From the 1st Aerospace Control Squadron article (goes farther and lists entire initial cadre):

The first Commander of the operational squadron was Col Robert Miller, of Albion, Illinois, former Commander of the 94th Fighter Interceptor Squadron.[2] Colonel Miller retired in August 1965.

The initial cadre of the squadron, trained at Project Space Track in Massachusetts, was:[3][4]

Lt Col William H. Gibson (primary duty Director, SPADATS[5])

Lt Col Dalton F. Newton (primary duty Chief, SPADATS Operations Division, also Director, Spacetrack Center and later Director, SPADATS)[6][7]

Maj James L. Rynning (Administrative Officer[8])

Capt William P. Bingham (primary duty Space Surveillance Officer[5])

Capt Frederick Carl Eaton (primary duty Chief, Orbital Analysis)[9]

Capt Orville L. Greynolds

Capt James W. Head

Capt Billy M. Jackson

Capt Thomas C. Marsters (primary duty Chief, SPADATS Control Center[5])

Capt Donald D. McComb

1st Lt Eric B. Nelson (primary duty Analyst for Intelligence,[5] the first officer in that duty assignment). As such, Lt Nelson was responsible for computing the orbits of all new Soviet launches and for liaison with the Space Intelligence Division, NORAD J-2, located on the top two floors of the same building.
