Away goal rule?[edit]

How is the away goal rule applied? Schnapper (talk) 19:17, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My programme from the second tie of the Vancouver-Edmonton series has a heading that reads: "Explaining aggregate/away goals rule". It then explains the specifics, in point form, of goal combinations required for the Whitecaps to advance. It doesn't explain the away goals rule outright, but it does indicate that extra time and penalty kicks would be required if the aggregate and away goals are even. It's the same as the away goals rule as is used in UEFA Champions League. Walter Görlitz (talk) 19:24, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Using the Vancouver-Montreal series as an example, which is currently drawn at 0-0 after one match played in Montreal. If Montreal scores in Vancouver during the second tie (leg), Vancouver would have to score one more goal than Montreal in order to advance. The away goal is weighted. A scoreless draw in Vancouver would go to extra time and penalty kicks. Any other draw would favour Montreal and they would advance. Walter Görlitz (talk) 19:28, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for your quick answer. Schnapper (talk) 19:37, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
