Opening paragraph[edit]

I'm not sure when or who added the current opening, but since 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment already has an article of its own, I linked it ... I also changed the tense from current to past ... now, this is just a brief footnote to the history of the unit, and IMO it does not belong as the opening paragraph ... there was already confusion that led to the Battle of Mosul (2004) being added to the {{Buffalo Soldiers}} template because that unit fought there ... OTOH, I did not want to move/delete it without discussion and WP:Consensus.

The era of the Buffalo Soldiers ended with the desegregation of the US armed forces after World War II (Executive Order 9981), so no units or battles after then should be associated as such ... in other words, there are no "modern" Buffalo Soldiers.
The Buffalo Soldiers article specifically references this article, not its vestigial, modern descendant.
This article should follow a consistency of layout with its companion article, 25th Infantry Regiment (United States).

My suggestion is that (a) the paragraph be moved to the end of the article as "Final Disposition" or some such, and that (b) the section currently labeled "History" become the opening to the article, as it used to be ... see 25th Infantry Regiment (United States) for comparison ... Since no one has raised any objections, I am moving the current opening paragraph to the end, in a new section titled "Modern legacy." —72.75.65.41 21:36, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I linked the 41st to the 24th, corrected the opening statement, and inserted the correct Lineage information for the 41st. The primary reason for keeping the 41st information here is the fact that there have been TWO 41st Regiments in the Regular Army, the second unit not being connected to the first. When I have the info for the second 41st, I will place it here with the explanation.

The history section is still incorrect. The 38th and 41st were both regiments created by the Army Act of 1866. Infantry regiments were reorganized a number of times between 1866 and 1870, and the 24th was the result of the last of these reorganizations.Intothatdarkness (talk) 14:24, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

MHP Re-Assessment[edit]

I re-assessed the article in accordance with the B-class criteria of the Military history Wikiproject.

Structure: I added the Lead section, so this should qualify it as "passed".
Coverage: The article appears to cover the regiment's history well.

In addition:

Task Forces: I removed the WWI task force since the 24th did not deploy for World War I. I was tempted to remove it from the "Cold War" task force, but since it was active until 1951, I suppose it qualifies.
For improvement: In-line citations are needed, and in the Worl War II section, dead links should be removed or re-directed to an appropriate related or similar article.

Subtle vandalization?[edit]

This line "The Houston Riot (1917) was not a mutiny by 150 black soldiers of the Twenty-fourth United States Infantry, called the Camp Logan Riots. Sergeant Vida Henry of I Company, 3rd Battalion led about 150 black soldiers in a two-hour march on Houston because they had suffered racial discrimination in the city." under the Houson Riots contains the word 'not' which doesn't read right and appears to be a subtle protest. Clearly the actions are a mutiny regardless of the morals. Using 'Be Bold' I'm removing the not. Daropedia (talk) 14:13, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Film, "The 24th"[edit]

Is it worth mentioning the recent (August 2020) film "The 24th," about the Fort Logan Mutiny? It is actually a pretty good movie and seems relatively accurate--at least as accurate as a "based on a true story" drama can be.173.62.25.244 (talk) 02:31, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Army Reversal of Riot Court-Martials[edit]

Although covered in the separate piece on the 1907 Riot, there should be at least mention here of the 2023 action by the Army to reverse and rehabilitate those who were court-martialed, imprisoned, and executed in the riot's wake Irish Melkite (talk) 13:14, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
