Commando Helicopter Force photograph.[edit]

Currently, this article includes a photograph of ground crew with the Commando Helicopter Force (CHF). That is a separate unit from 45 Commando. That image is also part of the wikipedia CHF article. I suggest deleting it from this article and replacing it with a photograph that shows people or things of 45 Commando.

Lists[edit]

The lists of commanding officers and the list of where the unit has been on active service are a bit of a mess. The active service one should and can be incorporated into the article but the CO's is a list of non notable persons which if 45 Commando goes on for another 100 years would become longer than the article. If no objections I will delete them --Jim Sweeney (talk) 18:54, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unintended Invasion of Spain in 2002[edit]

While en route to Afghanistan aboard HMS Ocean, a platoon from 45 Commando performed an exercise in amphibious assault on Gibraltar. Except they landed on a beach in La Línea, Spain, a bit to the north from their intended target. There they scared some locals, were told by police they are in the wrong country, apologized and left. Some diplomatic embarrassment followed.

The error was blamed on bad weather. What with the Rock of Gibraltar being extremely visible, this is the only explanation I can think of. Hilarious quote: The wrong landing, a corporal pointed out, was due to "one of the most dangerous things in the world – an officer with a map".
