Question[edit]

what are A4paper use for

The current contents of this page should be turned into a disambigution page, while this page should be about the A4 paper format. Thaum1el (talk) 00:47, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

A4 <> A440[edit]

I do not think it is correct to include the pitch A440 as something to which A4 refers. I've never heard this usage - OK, that's not evidence, so let's say I don't see any citation for it either here or in the A4 article, and pending those turning up - and convincingly - I think it should go. Quite apart from anything else how can it possibly be that A4 means A440 specifically? Why not A432 or A415? Indeed why not any pitch at all for A in the (somewhat unlikely) range 400-499 Hz? No, sorry, I don't buy it and believe it should go. Prove me wrong and I will apologize most prettily. 138.37.199.206 (talk) 17:29, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

I now see what has happened. When someone first put in A4 as a musical note they meant the A in octave number 4 in a notation convention, thus: [[1]]. This does make sense, though I am not sure how valuable it is on this disambiguation page. A later editor then came along and erroneously changed it to A440, a link which only works one way. In other words, the note A at 440Hz might sometimes be called A4 but there is no way that saying A4 means the note at 440Hz - it could be any pitch around there depending on the tuning, and to say they are the same is just wrong. A4 tells you where it is written, not the exact pitch at which it sounds. I'd be interested to hear what other editors think but my inclination would be to leave it out. If it must go in then fine, as A4, but NOT as A440, which - see above - it simply does not indicate. Nomorenonotnever (talk) 08:40, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

A4 Laptop?[edit]

No mention of Acorn Computer's A4 laptop released in 1992? See Acorn Archimedes. --Quatermass (talk) 20:34, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

A4 paper[edit]

The vast majority of people outside North America will expect to see an article on the A4 paper size when they search for A4. They shouldn't have to dig around in the bottom half of a disambig page to find this. "All the world's America" yet again. --Ef80 (talk) 21:53, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

I agree. I refrained from outright making A4 redirect to A4 paper (mostly due to the awkward presentation on that page), but I edited the disambiguation page to put the paper size at the top. Nemetroid (talk) 20:00, 5 July 2016 (UTC)
