Move the yearly nominee list ?[edit]

I can see this article becoming huge with the lists for each year.

I agree that it shouldn't be on the main article page- there is also the recentism as we only go back to 2004 for the round by round nominations. I think we either need to move them to a List of AFL Rising Star award nominations article (and expand back to 1993) and/or create all of the individual year pages as 2007 has (with the extra detail on the final voting) and/or put it on the AFL season articles. Probably should have a [:Category:AFL Rising Star award nominated player]] or similiar as well. Finally, should it really be "... Award" or "... award"... and if it's the latter, why bother with the word "award" at all? Makes all of the titles/cats less cumbersome. The-Pope (talk) 02:39, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pre-1997 vote tallies[edit]

Despite the AFL seemingly not having record of the final Rising Star vote tallies before 1997 (their annual Season Guide says votes were "kept in-house" prior to this), I've just managed to find evidence (from an Age article written at the time) that 1996 winner Ben Cousins won the award with 15 votes, from Shannon Grant with 14. Just goes to show that – as is often the case with Australian football history – the truth is often out there, it's just not exactly well held by the supposed 'keeper of the code'.
