Unclear situation[edit]

I'm seeing conflicting reports stating that Younis has been arrested and that Younis has been assassinated. As neither of these reports can be independently verified at this time, I strongly believe we must exercise caution. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a news outlet, and it would behoove us to avoid recentism and hold off on claiming he's "recently died" or anything of that nature until we get independent confirmation from reliable sources. -Kudzu1 (talk) 19:01, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Al-Jazeera is reporting him dead. AxmxZ (talk) 20:19, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

He was eather killed two weeks ago at the start of the battle for Brega, like it was originaly reported, and they postponed to announce it so the rebels won't loose moral. Or, he was realy killed today, but, by all accounts, he was most likely killed by the rebels themselves, since he was originaly reported to had been under arrest for possible continuing ties with Gaddafi, and now they are trying to pin the blame on Gaddafi supporters. Because, if he was killed by loyalists, why was it initialy reported that he had been arrested for alleged continuing links to Gaddafi? It would have been a major embarasment for the rebels if it came out that their top general leading the war was still a loyalist, undercover. EkoGraf (talk) 22:34, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

He was considered a key supporter of Muammar al-Gaddafi[4] or even No. 2 in the Libyan government
Wouldn't have been that shocking. What is is that they ever trusted him. 64.229.136.66 (talk) 10:28, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The number 2 man for 40 years and he changes side in only 5 days since the start of the war? Yeah right. Haha. EkoGraf (talk) 15:24, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you see what I was getting at. 64.229.136.66 (talk) 21:37, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is hard to support the theory of Younis being killed by pro Gaddafi. 1)Gaddafi forces have no power in Benghazi 2) Younis was put under arrest by the NTC 3) Jalil could not even blame directly Gaddafi forces. The question is wheter the NTC organized its assassination because they wanted more power or believed he was a treator OR was it a personnal vengeance with another faction like this link can make believe [1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by FreemanSA (talkcontribs) 20:45, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ali Tarhouni is saying that they asked a local militia commander to bring him in for questioning, but the militiamen shot Younis and dumped his body instead in defiance of orders. I've updated the article to include the claim. This will almost certainly develop further. -Kudzu1 (talk) 21:05, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Musah Ibrahim statement[edit]

I don't know why some think it has not his place here.

Here is what I added

"Libyan governement spokeman Musa Ibrahim said stated that the murder or Younis was the proof of Al Qaeda being the main power among rebels. [1]"

It concerns directly Younis death and its consequences. We have to state the opinion of the Lybian governement as long as it is not absurd. And the fact that the rebel military chief has been murdered by islamists and that a rebel commander believe the NTC won't dare to touch them make it a POV worthy of being written.

The claim of opposition about the death of Saif El Arab has been stated in his page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saif_al-Arab_al-Gaddafi eventough they were baseless.--FreemanSA (talk) 17:56, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The claims of the Gaddafi government should always be included. It's not our job to decide which information is accurate. -Kudzu1 (talk) 18:06, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

419 warning[edit]

I left a warning regarding wide-distribution 419 scams using this page to give themselves the appearance of legitimacy. It can probably be removed in a few days. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.128.195.87 (talk) 09:47, 7 October 2011 (UTC) ... but it seems to have been reverted by the bot. Oh well, I tried. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.128.195.87 (talk) 09:49, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please please please don't leave a link to an outside side like that. It would appear that the link itself is compromised. Jeancey (talk) 05:31, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
