Kirk Lewis Incline [ edit ]
The Kirk Q. Bigham book seems to be describing the coal mine that later became the
Pittsburgh and Castle Shannon Tunnel, but put its location as west of the present Duquesne Incline, and the mine/tunnel was east of it. There may have been more than one inclined plan from the mine over the years, one to Carson Street and one to the Monongahela River. An early drawing or photo may clarify the issue.
