Are you telling me plan9port is not notable? Are you telling me Inferno is note notable? And what makes this application any more special than the other hundreds of applications Plan 9 has? Why shouldn't Emacs be merged into GNU? Emacs is less notable than Acme out of its orignating world. ems 20:00, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Against, Acme relevance goes very far from Plan 9, it has been re-implemented numerous times (eg., there is acme in Inferno and wily), acme also has inspired many other window systems and text editors, and it should be seen in a much wider context. A fast glimpse over the acme paper clearly shows that acme is a complete programming environment on it's own right. Also acme includes its own very innovative window management. The name "Acme"[edit]

Rob Pike has mentioned on Russ Cox's Google+ that the name Acme was suggested by Penn Jilette of Penn & Teller during a movie night at Times square. This might border on being WP:USERG, but I'm adding it nonetheless. The same thing is also mentioned in the Acme FAQ at cat-v.org - but I guess they too found it on the same Google+ thread.
