  • The famous chief Samory Toure was Ahmed Sékou Touré's grandfather rather than his father. Comrade Che 1 13:44, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I posted the expert insert into the article and I think it is the right thing. The note added is important and good, but shouldn't be in that form. Perhaps someone with some expertise can put it into the entry in a NPOV way?--Thomas.macmillan 16:31, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Strong president and somebody think he could be regarded as dictator ? That's funny !: Of course Toure was a 100% dictator ! Please, you dream on, people will laugh at this article. I am not saying he was the african bloodiest dictator, but he was a dictator at 100%. No need to discuss for anybody who knows something about Guinea. Was respected by Guineans ? he was FEARED, maybe somebody also remembers his good sides (well, easy compared to this bastard of Lansana Conte) but most of the dictators had had their fans.

Neutral point of View, MK II[edit]

Once again, I feel it necessary to point out that we must present all mainstream points of view here. I understand that people who suffered under this regime are angry about it, but the fact remains that many people also consider this guy a hero. Whether these people are delusional or evil is a debate you can have elsewhere. But the December 2008 rewrite which labels Toure a "Dictator" and operator of "concentration camps" are problematic because:

1) the English is horrible. 2) you just changed the thing I originally wrote, changing the meaning from "some people say X, others say Y" to "X!!!", using the same references. 3) these references don't support what you changed the prose to say.

Please Find third part authoritative references which support you view that Toure was evil, and add those references. Then develop a section which says "People X say Toure was Y", not "Toure was Y" and then remove all other points of view. Other reasonable, mainstream points of view, even if you think they're wrong, will also have to be included.

I probably agree with what you have to say, but please understand how this process works. Wikipedia IS NOT A SOAPBOX, nor is it a place to solve historical debates. It is a place to describe the current state of mainstream knowledge, and as such will often present points of view with which you differ.

We can collaborate on how this should be done here: Please share your views here.

OR else I'll give this a week, and then I'll revert back to the pre-December 2008 changes. T L Miles (talk) 02:21, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

dispute?[edit]

Toure's involvement in the concentration camps is not disputed at all by any historian. The simple fact is that Toure set up these camps to exterminate all whom opposed. Simple as that. (Heteren (talk) 14:21, 14 August 2009 (UTC))[reply]

The overall tone seems to gloss over the many human rights abuses, and is biased in this respect. Contrast this to how Pinochet is portrayed; he is characterized as a dictator right there in the lede. Toure seems to be getting a free pass because he comes from the left. Of course, there seems to be a lot of that going on in Wikipedia these days. Arlesd (talk) 00:25, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Works by Toure[edit]

The list of works supposedly authored by Toure seems impossible for a man who was head of state. It includes many reports and books that appear to be government publications. I would not think they were worth listing as purported books by Toure and strongly recommend that this be edited and shortened.Parkwells (talk) 01:40, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
