Paralympics Atlanta 1996[edit]

There reads: She competed in the Paralympics in 1996 in Atlanta, in which she ran the 100-meter dash in 17.01 seconds and jumped 3.14 meters in the long-jump.
I was wondering how did she do, but the source gives "The requested page could not be found." So I could not check them. Apparently, she didn't win any medals, I bet that would have been mentioned. 85.217.39.114 (talk) 18:09, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

She didn't win anything but in the dash at least according to her TEDTalk she was the only person running as a leg amputee, all the others were missing like a hand or something. I managed to find the results in the Paralympics database, which wasn't easy since I didn't know her class. But, she finished last in both competitions. 85.217.32.113 (talk) 06:00, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
paralympic.org may have since updated their site, I just searched for Mullins and one Paralympics (1996) with two events came back. I updated both citation references (long jump went to a blank results page) and removed the false claim of breaking world records. A World Record was set in the long jump (referenced in Talk:Aimee_Mullins#Claims_of_medals_and_records) by Iryna Leantsiuk. 70.44.142.249 (talk) 16:01, 8 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

And, I was remembering she was born 1975 with a date versus this article's 1976 without a date. I managed to find a Powerpoint presentation (famous person w assistive devie.ppt) with a birthday July 20 1975. Since there is no source for the 1976 in the article, should that be changed? 85.217.32.113 (talk) 06:06, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Where did you find the Powerpoint file? Maybe we can cite it. Roger (talk) 09:35, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I found it by searching aimee mullins july 20 1975. The file's address is: http://noralee9.com/mercy/portfolio_archives/bronx/spring07/rachel/ppts/famous%20person%20w%20assistive%20devie.ppt 85.217.46.150 (talk) 01:11, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW, IMDb says she was born in 1975, not 1976 as the article states 70.44.142.249 (talk) 16:01, 8 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup and expand[edit]

I've done quite a bit of cleaning up and added that she has been appointed Chef de Mission for the US team at the 2012 Paralympics. Roger (talk) 09:06, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Claims of medals and records[edit]

There are many online sources that claim she won gold medals and broke world records - they are all simply wrong! She only ever competed in two Paralympic events and didn't win either of them. Roger (talk) 09:29, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In keeping with "unsourced or poorly sourced – whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable – should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion." WP:BLP, I corrected her results and removed the phrase regarding world records. Bestowing such a title to Mullins takes away from the real World Record breaker that year, Iryna Leantsiuk. [1] I left the part of the phrase regarding her retiring in 1998 since I could not refute it (although it perhaps should be sourced ala citation needed?) 70.44.142.249 (talk) 14:49, 8 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
