Re: Count Andrew of Turjak[edit]

Andreas von Auersperg was no count (Graf/grof). His rank was that of a knight, and his family name Auersperg should appear in the title of an article about him.
Turjak castle was the original residence of all the Carniolan Auerspergs, so they are all nicknamed "Turjaški" in Slovenian - but not in English. "Ursperg", the first recorded name of the castle, refers to German "Ur" (= engl. aurochs), which in late Middle High German became a diphthongated "Auer", and then the beast's name was explained by the addition of a disgraceful "Ochs" (= ox) although it's definitely a bull!). Cf. the family's arms.
And www.carantha.net - although absolutely interesting and entertaining with its version of a "true Slovenian history" - is by no means a trustworthy source. --Marschner (talk) 20:42, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
