Ties to MNLA

[edit]

The Andy Morgan statement that allegations that the MNLA is connected to Ancar Dine are a "smear campaign" don't make much sense at this point. It's now been documented by a number of international news organizations, and the MNLA itself has stated it. Since Morgan is a nonnotable commentator anyway, I'm removing this from the article for now. Khazar2 (talk) 17:33, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Move from Ancar Dine

[edit]

Comparing the Google hits for ""Ancar Dine" Mali" [1] (~3,000 hits) to ""Ansar Dine" Mali" (~79,000 hits) [2], I've moved the page per WP:COMMONNAME, believing this to be noncontroversial. If I'm wrong, please correct me! Khazar2 (talk) 17:39, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No probs with the move per se, but to throw in other options: Ansar al-din and Ansar al-dine. Also hear "deen"Lihaas (talk) 11:01, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Redirects created. Thanks-- Khazar2 (talk) 16:35, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Arabic on Flag

[edit]

Press reports that the Arabic appearing on Ansar al-Din's black flag is la ilaha ila allah: there is no god but god. See Jeune Afrique, 3 April 2012, Rebellion au Nord-Mali: Tombouctou, capitale de l'Azawad? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.234.138.36 (talk) 21:22, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting. From the picture here it looks like a modified version of the flag of al-qaeda. Brightgalrs (/braɪtˈɡæl.ərˌɛs/)[1] 18:12, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sufi labelling

[edit]

As clarified in that interview http://en.qantara.de/This-is-not-Sharia-but-banditry/20373c498/index.html there are two Ansar Dine organizations: one is the Malian Wahabist and terrorist group led by Iyad Ag Ghaly, and the other is the Malian Sufi movement led by Chérif Ousmane Haidara. The two share the same name but they have opposing views regarding Islam, as there are fundamental disagreements between Wahabism and Sufism. The Sufi label on the article should therefore be eliminated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.39.223.18 (talk) 17:58, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

So, it is my opinion that an article page should begin with "is the name of two organizations" and explain comparisons. Or, a disambiguation page can be created, your choice. In any case, please consider amending the article to include these facts rather than simply deleting. Thanks.Twillisjr (talk) 18:57, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Until more on the other Ansar Dine is added to the page, I'm going to remove this: "Ansar Dine remains the title of two separate Islamic organizations. The first, is an Islamist group blah blah blah" as there is no mention of the other Ansar Dine in the entire article. Maybe someone else can come up with a little "not to be confused with" blurb about the other group, because I can only find YouTube videos about them. If you think I'm going to watch two dozen YouTube videos to know what you're talking about, think again. PatheticManatee (talk) 01:42, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed and fixed. PatheticManatee (talk) 01:52, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like Ancar dine page has not been created yet. The almost identical titles makes it more confusing. I took a look at the link above and it is spelled exactly the same. Misdemenor (talk) 19:41, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
