Argonne/Northwestern Solar Energy Research Center → Argonne-Northwestern Solar Energy Research Center – Per logo on their site, the research center name contains a simple dash (not en-dash), not a slash. (Second minor reason: the MediaWiki software thinks that this talk page is a subpage of Talk:Argonne, which is incorrect, and could be avoided with this move here)

It's unclear to me if "ANSER Center" is a COMMONNAME, but it's surely okay as well. — Andy W. (talk · ctb) 01:35, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose – A hyphen (what nom calls a "simple dash") does not signify the symmetric relationship between the two organizations, Argonne and Northwestern. The sometimes use of a slash is one way to indicate it, but in Wikipedia style, where we have en dash available and recommended for such relationships, the en dash would be what we use; see MOS:DASH. Oppose—No, I think Dicklyon opposes, because the proposal is to introduce a hyphen where it should not be. I agree with him, and so does MOS:DASH. I see a variety of thoughtless typography in a google search, including an en dash (both incorrectly open and correctly closed), a closed hyphen (BTW, it is not called a "simple dash"), an open hyphen, a hyphen open on one side and closed on the other (really?), a slash, and a plain space. I also see the two elements reversed, with plain space. WP, then, follows its house style and inserts a closed en dash. It's simple.
