Why histidine usually is not included in the aromatic aminoacids group?

Good question. No idea myself. Lehninger does not list it, but Voet does AFAIK. (talk) 21:12, 9 February 2014 (UTC)


Right now non-canonical aminoacids are also listed. Can we use different border-colours for these to make it easier to distinguish them quickly? (talk) 21:12, 9 February 2014 (UTC)


Colleagues, histidine should be aromatic. It obeys aromaticity rules, exhibits aromatic properties and, no surprise, is aromatic. The reason above why Lehninger did not count it as aromatic is kinda tradition - aromatic aa supposed to have a moderate absorption at 260-300 nm region. It is pretty trivial and has nothing to do with chemistry.
