Name - original or translation?[edit]

It's increasingly common for national bodies to be referred to by the name in their own language rather than in translation - would it be better to have this page at Österreichische HochschülerInnenschaft? Timrollpickering 12:43, 29 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, their own homepage does state the name in English... [1]. Gryffindor 14:47, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
it's also not really a national body, I'd go with the english name, that's also what they do in european meetings, afaik. --Juxi 06:37, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In a sense, it is indeed a national body: unlike the student unions in most other countries, the ÖH is regulated by national law to be the representative body of all university students in Austria, with every student becoming a member through incription at any of Austria's universities. This is indeed one of the strengths of ÖH compared to student unions in most other countries: Even when election turnout is fairly low at times, ÖH legally represents the entirity of students in Austria rather than just a (possibly biased) fraction that chose to join a political organization. In a way, ÖH is thus more like a Chamber than a Union (see also Arbeiterkammer vs. ÖGB.213.47.123.225 20:10, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
