Article name[edit]

  • Comments in the article regarding "Frau Ava" being an inappropriate title because "its patronising" (despite that being, as the article itself states, the way she is known) were noted, but the use of the brackets was inconsistent with Wikipedia Naming Convention. Use Ava (poet) if you prefer? Jdcooper 23:19, 24 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, no, the most recent literature does not refer to her as Frau Ava, but simply as Ava. --Doric Loon 11:24, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'd support using Ava (poet), in that case, and putting "...also known as Frau Ava." in the introduction, but I don't mind either way. Not (Frau) Ava tho, per Wikipedia Article naming guidelines. Jdcooper 16:20, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, let's go for it. (BTW, if anyone wants a reference for the move away from "Frau", see the Rushing book.) --Doric Loon 09:14, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Wait a second, Ava was the first writer full stop in German? I was under the impression from original version of the article that she was the first female writer. This makes more sense, thanks. I would say though, that the reason Ava was known as Frau Ava was because she was probably one of, if not the only female writer? Or that it was of notable rarity to be of interest that she was a woman, and isnt necessarily a sign of misogynist patriarchy or some other such dodgy post-modernist reappraisal. But of course i have no evidence for there not being many female writers, nor it this really the place for me to talk about this, so i'll shut up ;) thanks for clearing the confusion up! You're absolutely right - I missed out the word "female", and of course she was not the first writer in the language. As for the other question, it is not a big deal to me, but I note that the convention is changing and record that. --Doric Loon 18 April 2006

  • Fair play, good work on this article. Jdcooper 11:28, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
