Possible 1980s remake[edit]

Does anybody remember what I am guessing could have been a remake of this film from the 1980s? If not a remake, then it was certainly based on the Starkweather/Fugate story. I seem to recall the film being told from the perspective of the Starkweather character, and it beginning with him about to face the electric chair. I forget the name of the Starkweather character, although I remember the Fugate character was named Laura Ferguson (something that sticks in my mind because I had recently left school and there had been a Laura Ferguson in my class). I also remember the song 'In the Still of the Night' by the Five Satins being played at one point during the film.

My reason for saying all this is that if there was a remake, then something about that should be included the article. And what was the film's title? Was it also called Badlands? Or did it have another name?

You might mean this film which was actually released in 1976. Named Stark Raving Mad it was a fictionalised account of the Starkweather case and starred Russell Fast and Marcie Severson as Richard Stark and Laura Ferguson. Shouldn't There Be Something About Zodiac?[edit]

Just for the sake of trivia. It's strongly suggested that the 'a citizen' in the 1974 'citizen card' could have been Zodiac, based on handwriting etc. A lot of film articles seem to have little facts like this, I don't think it would hurt the article, just add interest. 81.129.143.107 (talk) 19:51, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

True romance[edit]

Remake is a little strong in some ways, because the plot is different, but the beautiful music (same music) and southern girl narration were "remade." I too think that there should be something in the article.

budget[edit]

where is the 500,000 estimate for the budget coming from? we have malick on record in the article itself quoting 300,000, "excluding deferments" . when looking for an outside source, i found a reference to the budget at 350,000 in this google books scan of a copy of "America's Film Legacy: The Authoritative Guide to the Landmark Movies in the National Film Registry". i'm going to change this to 300,000 for now. The Sadist (1963)[edit]

Although, as far as I can tell from some research, the age of consent for girls in South Dakota during the 1950s was 16, thus Kit's act would technically be molestation in reality, I don't think that terminology best describes the act in context of the film. To say "they made love" or similar would be wildly improper; "had sex" would be coldly accurate but fail to address that this was Holly's first time and how that would affect her feelings with regard to Kit; that he "[took] her virginity" (as it was before your edits and is again after mine) seems a somewhat fair compromise, bearing in mind that (although not legally speaking) the act was consensual and while Kit clearly had greater control of the situation, Holly actually gave her virginity. The term "groomer" is massively misleading in context and Caril Ann Fugate is referred to as the girlfriend of Charles Starkweather in the associated source(s). @User:Fred Gandt I don't think it matters whether the sources say that or not since it's factually inaccurate. She was 14 and couldn't and didn't consent. He groomed her. We can use the sources for their other content about her and Charles whilst acknowledging they are wrong on this matter. Variance in citation styles[edit]

The Further reading section has a different citation style than the footnotes, which generally use Citation Style 1 (CS1) templates. As per WP:CITEVAR under the Generally considered helpful section, to summarize two bullet items:

imposing one style on an article with inconsistent citation styles
improving existing citations by adding missing information
