Village/town[edit]

Recently (Nov 2022), a series of edits were made to change the description of Ballyragget from "small town" to "village". I reverted these changes as uncited and unexplained. But also because the current and former Kilkenny County Council county and local area development plans appear to support the "small town" description. For example, the 2004 Ballyragget Local Area Plan (LAP) uses the term "town" throughout. And, where "village" is used, it is used in the past tense or for juxtaposition. (EG: "Ballyragget was a small village then [early 17th century]", "[Ballyragget's] urban street pattern [is] characteristic of a town rather than a village".) Prior to the 2004 LAP, and as noted on page 1 of the 2004 LAP, the previous planning framework was the 1980s "Draft Study and Action Plan for the Town of Ballyragget". (Emphasis mine.) After gthe 2004 LAP, we have the Kilkenny County Development Plan 2014-2020. This seems to include Ballyragget in the "smaller towns" category (along with Piltown/pop.1,220 and Mooncoin/1,175). And, in hierarchical terms, behind what the council has classified as "district towns" (like Castlecomer/1,500), "large towns" (New Ross/8,000) and "hub" (Kilkenny city/26,500). If someone has sources to support the "reclassification" of Ballyragget (from town to village), then please provide refs to support. ~~ Guliolopez (talk) 03:47, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
