I should be in bed, and I'm not into comics, but this has piqued my interest. I'll throw down a few thoughts and probably complete the review another time. J Milburn (talk) 23:54, 14 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • "His work as lawyer by day and crime fiction author by night resulted in Vachss being compared to Batman." This is a little colloquial.
  • "His work as lawyer by day and crime fiction author by night resulted in Vachss being compared to Batman.[3] Vachss had previously written graphic novels for Dark Horse Comics.[4]" These sentences don't seem to be related.
  • "Curious about a motivation towards child abuse," Odd phrase
  • Seems to be some inconsistency with regards to whether you refer to the character as Batman or Wayne. Your way may work fine, but something to take a close look at, I think. Having not read the novel, I can't really judge.
    • I checked the usage in the article. I think the source of this may be from when it is both Wayne/Batman who are doing the action (e.g. "Batman travels to..."). In this article "Batman" is used when it is specifically Batman in cotume or when it is ambiguous (both Wayne&Batman travelled to SF and Udon Khai). When "Wayne" is used it means specifically Bruce Wayne (out of costume). maclean (talk) 19:52, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Telling Rhama that Hollister had sent him, Batman and Rhama visit a ma" Is he not still Hollister here?
  • "Both the audiobook and the graphic novel versions also included the essay by Hechler" You mention these like we should know about them, but you're yet to introduce them. Can I recommend that you split the publication/publicity details from the reception, and move it to between the plot and style sections?
  • "writing is my way of preaching, For me, it's always," Comma followed by uppercase?
  • "When Batman gets involved he contrasted against a social worker and he realizes that throughout his career he had been fighting criminals, not crime." This doesn't seem to make sense
  • "All three versions included the essay "Child Sex Tourism" by journalist David Hechler." This tidbit is repeated unncessarily
  • Try to be consistent with giving publishing locations? I've got to say, though, that this is very well sourced- you've done a great job there.
    • I've added the publishing locations to all the "cite newspapers" but not the "cite journals". My reasoning is that they are national publications, not specifically tied to one location. maclean (talk) 19:13, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Images/stability fine.

Great looking article on an interesting subject. I've done a bit of copyedit, so please make sure you're happy with what I've done. Are you interested in taking this to FAC? It really is a very strong article; if you are, there are a couple of quick pointers I have. J Milburn (talk) 00:22, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    • Thanks for taking an interest. And thanks for the encouragement regarding FAC, however, I'd prefer to spend my time boosting another article to GA status rather than tinker with an already strong article trying to get FA status. Nevertheless, I'll look at implementing any suggestions you have. maclean (talk) 19:13, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, a second look-through:

  • The lead implies that the comic people approached Vachss first, while the prose doesn't really say that
    • The lead more accurately reflected the reference. Fixed
  • "In Kirkus Reviews, the story was compared to a generic "Destroy All Exploiters" video game [where Batman] disposes of each lower-level pimp, then moves up to the next level"." Check the quote marks
  • Just check your newspaper locations again- refs 1, 3 and 13 don't seem to quite follow the same format of Town, State

Once these small points are dealt with, I'll be happy to promote. Hypothetically speaking, and it wouldn't be for some time if you said yes, would you object to me taking this to FAC on your behalf? J Milburn (talk) 15:06, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    • I did not object the first time somebody did that and I would not object in the future. If you are interested in something like I should email you my notes so you can verify the content. maclean (talk) 01:17, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • Thanks; I can access at least some of the sources cited through Nexis. In any case, this article is currently ready for good article status. Fantastic work; one of the better GAs I have reviewed recently. I'll keep my eyes open for your work at GAC in the future! J Milburn (talk) 10:30, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
