Cites? What cites?[edit]

This article is going to remain a mess for a while. Sorry, but it's not something I can do much about.

I need to find some historical sources, and if you google this, there is just NOTHING out there. Mostly what you will find is messages from me and other people looking for them.

I may have to do research of old farming newspaper articles or see if a magazine with a long history like Hoard's Dairyman has a historical archive that I could access.

This old technology is pretty much extinct. DMahalko (talk) 21:02, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Bender milk receiver / different company[edit]

It appears the washer/releaser and the milk dumping station may be separate devices, possibly invented by different people but used together..

I have heard people call the Step Saver a Bender device. It appears the two may have been often used together, so the brand names got all mixed up over the years by farmers using the equipment.

Later patents are issued to "Bender Machine Works", Hayward, WI. DMahalko (talk) 04:00, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

More research[edit]

Here are all possible patents related to Lloyd Bender and/or the Bender Machine Works that I've been able to find, using http://www.freepatentsonline.com ... I also opened each of these patents to check the patent citations to previous inventors.

Unfortunately none of these show the step saver as I have always understood it, with the conical bottom and float ball. More research is needed apparently.

Dumping station research[edit]

Milk dumping stations / milk transfer carts

Still, nothing specific is turning up, but I will keep looking. Several promising patents with a float ball, but none with the ball loose inside as in the typical Step Saver cart... odd, that it is so hard to find.

Patent Description

-- (portable milking system on a cart)
2808025 Milking and collecting apparatus
-- (cart, tank, no float ball)
2982247 Sealed dairy milk transfer tank

3016877 Milk pipe line
-- (sucking milk from cans into pipeline)
3053225 Milk handling system
-- (cart with electric motor, hose reel above milk tank)
3088483 Milk handling apparatus
-- (cart, float ball, but not conical)
3168994 Cart having self winding reel
-- (cart, hose rack, no float?)

Also, patent #3211171 is for the Sta-Rite milk receiver jar, liquid level sensor, transfer pump, and overflow protection.. which eventually became the milk pipeline design used by everybody everywhere.
