Concern about plagiarism/copyright and tone

[edit]

The text, "They are too slow to catch fish in a straight chase, so they hunt for fish hiding in the coral. Their bite is highly venomous and paralyzes their prey." is a direct quote from the BBC's Planet Earth television series, the Shallow Seas episode, about 9 minutes and 50 seconds into the episode. The rest of the text also seems to have the style of spoken narration (e.g. "no neck to speak of" and "Lucky for us...") -Leonard of Vince (talk) 01:52, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Binomial authority/ original description

[edit]

There seems to be some confusion as to the proper way to write the binomial authority for this species. I have found all of the following: "Reinwardt, 1837"; "(Reinwardt, 1837)"; "Reinwardt in Schlegel, 1837"; "(Reinwardt in Schlegel, 1837)"; "Schlegel, 1837"; and "(Schlegel, 1837)".

To clear up the matter I tried to find the original description of this taxon as a new species. I looked through every page of "Schlegel, Hermann. 1837. Essai sur la Physionomie des Serpens.", but could not find this snake described therein. Does anyone know the bibliographic citation for the original description? 74.109.236.194 (talk) 13:33, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Eureka! I searched "Schlegel, 1837" again, and I found it on page 516 as "Plat. [Platurus] semifasciatus REINWARDT". So, the current name should be "Laticauda semifasciata (Reinwardt in Schlegel, 1837)".74.109.236.194 (talk) 17:18, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
