Deletion of the Jokebook

[edit]

Jimbo Wales has announced that he will be deleting the Jokebook from Wikibooks within 24 hours. See Wikibooks:Staff lounge. Uncle G 16:30, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Really Uncle G? I just linked to it. Alexander 007 16:18, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Best ever

[edit]

This joke definately predates the indicated date; obviously as you follow the links back the date gets older, and I've seen Apr 19 2005 now.

Silliness

[edit]

Stereo-typical jokes may offend some people who don't want to be associated with that group. What really happens is that (1) If the stereotypical unit deviates from the original attributes, the original stroes fall away. (2) If the STU does not alter its long term behavoir the STU them begins to embrace the ST jokes.

The best example is my blond secretary who has at least one dumb blonde joke every week. I love her jokes and kid her about being a dumb blonde, but we both know the truth, that without her, this entire office would be lost.

Ruling anything "OUT" because it might offend somneone, invariably offends far more people. How / where / when do draw the line is a true art. An art of real correctness, where as political correctness often has its own agenda. It is an art of humanities which I only attempt to be fully aware.

Do say the distinction is arbitrary is an understatement. However; Lets not disband humor in the name of Political Correctness. Humor is necessary for Mental health, and a fall guy is necessary for a joke.

Please try to follow this 1 rule (maybe the others will fall in place). "Try never to hurt anyone; Never be mean nor mean-spirited." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.25.104.8 (talk) 17:24, 27 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Examples

[edit]

Last time I checked, Wikipedia was not an online joke book. Many of the following are gratuitously offensive. So, if we can agree on a few shinign examples which improve understanding of the form then fine, but otherwise I'd say better not to have them sincethe examples section seems to act like a magnet for sophomoric humour. Just zis Guy you know? 10:20, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Blonde jokes are not even offensive, much less "gratuitously offensive," dear. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.12.253.66 (talk) 22:26, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Glass

[edit]

"Why did the blonde climb over the glass wall? A: To see what was on the other side."

What kind of glass was it? Probably not transparant. James Blond 02:50, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Most likely a Heart of Glass, as those tend to attract blondies. :) K7L (talk) 14:32, 5 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sources ?

[edit]

Wonder what sources can be mentioned of this article as a whole. Aren't these jokes also told by for instance Palestinians about Jews and reversed? James Blond 03:22, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not funny

[edit]

"Bill Murray told a story about a blond coyote who became caught in a trap, and despite gnawing off three of its legs, was still caught in the trap."

The following objections against presence of this text in the article:

  • It's not about a blonde person.
  • Coyotes in reallity aren't blonde at all. Neither are donkey's.
  • It reminds of something very loaded to animalfriends and -protectors. They had and still have to take much pains, to get the use of this kind of traps prohibited and the import of fur, obtained by use of them, stopped.
Besides it's very dumb, to place these traps, because it might be one of the causes, why so many people on Earth are mutilated by landmines. "When you're good to animals you're good to yourself", says a rather well-known religious book; this implicates, that when you're not good to animals, you're not good to yourself. Isn't that dumb? James Blond 18:06, 12 May 2007 (UTC) There's jokes where blondes and bernetts kill eachother...and dont like eachother. I have blonde friends and i'm a bernett...we don't kill eachother...anyways there are jokes that go a little "out of hand" and it may actually affend blondes...or even blonde and bernett friends :/ That's why i say some blonde jokes should be erased...I know many disagree but i think i'm just being the more intelligent person :D[reply]

Don't think it's a sign of unintelligence, to be not the kind of type, that's mainly causing global warming, global overpopulation and more like that. James Blond 03:29, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cultural Holocaust

[edit]

The continued vandalism of this page via the deletion of the jokebook is nothing but a thinly-veiled attempt to expunge blonde jokes from their rightful place in an encyclopedic collection of knowledge. This list runs the gamut from the everyday to the absurd, and serves to demonstrate the versatility of this cultural form. Its deletion is comparable to the burning of Alexandria's Library, or the forced cultural assimilation of the Ainu. Shame on User 202.54.176.51 for his attempts to erase this cultural legacy. --76.69.143.73 (talk) 21:01, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We don't need examples; at most, one would suffice. We need to avoid lengthy lists. Basically, if someone wants to read about blonde jokes, I doubt they're going to be looking for examples; rather, they'd want to know criticism, cultural impact, etc. I'll remove the section in 3 days if nobody has any problems with that. Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :) 01:56, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As of now, this is among the only articles about jokes on Wikipedia that fails (FAILS) to list concrete examples. For the sake of this article's credibility, I'm reversing this deletion. --76.66.16.56 (talk) 04:18, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The reason most others don't list concrete examples is because they aren't necessary; one is enough, to be stretching it. A list, however, is excessive. Are you ok with only keeping one and removing the rest? Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :) 03:44, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Its deletion is comparable to the burning of Alexandria's Library, or the forced cultural assimilation of the Ainu. Shame on User 202.54.176.51 for his attempts to erase this cultural legacy. Hope you are not serious... Udonknome (talk) 01:50, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How so? At one point, blonde joke and blonde jokes were both completely clobbered by redirecting them to the blonde stereotype article. The topic is valid and this is uncalled for. K7L (talk) 14:35, 5 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
