STS-400[edit]

  • Generally the rule is not to mention future mission in the infobox. STS-400 is just a potential rescue mission, so this is even a worse idea, I think. Hektor (talk) 08:49, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Military career[edit]

If Behnken left Caltech with his PhD in 1997 and was admitted to the Astronaut Corps in 2000, this suggests three years when he could have been full time in the military. He was involved with AFROTC while a student so that adds some prior military experience. The article says he holds the rank of colonel in the US Air Force, but our article on colonels in the US military says "By law, a colonel must have at least 22 years of cumulative service and a minimum of three years as a lieutenant colonel before being promoted." How does this apply to Behnken? Did he continue to rise through the ranks after having left the Air Force for NASA, because of his role as a kind of test pilot? If so, are commissions and promotions announced publicly anywhere so we can see when he became a colonel? Beorhtwulf (talk) 01:05, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Some extra info: he was a major in 2008 according to [1] Beorhtwulf (talk) 01:09, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation[edit]

An IP editor has added /ˈbeɪnkən/ as the pronunciation of his surname (diff here), sourced to a video where he says his own name, which is always an ideal source if we can find one. However, I hear it as /ˈbɛnkən/, which corresponds with how I've heard others pronounce his name e.g. NASA press officers. Can other editors listen and give some input? For those not familiar with IPA the question is whether the first syllable of his surname sounds like the word "bane" or "Ben". Beorhtwulf (talk) 14:20, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I do hear an /ɪ/ there. The IP editor got it right, IMHO. 2001:2003:54F8:ADDE:2C4B:F336:F06C:4235 (talk) 18:15, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with both pronunciations. I hear [BENG-kin] every single time he's interviewed or introduced by NASA staff. 67.83.99.134 (talk) 18:45, 16 October 2020 (UTC)corpho[reply]

Ethnicity[edit]

What is he mixed with? What’s his family history? 2603:8081:4306:C7C2:247A:42C5:DE82:536C (talk) 13:02, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
