Corrected Errors[edit]

I corrected two errors in the first paragraph. Carpenter was not the first American high-school player chosen in the NHL draft. That distinction belongs to Jay North who was drafted out of Bloomington Jefferson H.S. in Minnesota in the third round of the 1980 draft by the Buffalo Sabres. In fact, there were seven American high-school players chosen in the 1980 draft; five from Minnesota and two from Massachusetts, although none of those players would ever play in the NHL. However, it should be noted that the NHL was not permitted to draft high-school players until 1979.

Carpenter was the first American high-school player drafted in the first round, as well as the first American player to go directly from high school to the NHL (i.e., with no time playing for a junior, college, or minor-league team in between). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aelogan (talkcontribs) 18:11, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lee Fogolin was the first U.S. born player drafted in the first round of an NHL draft in 1974.
