Rotax engines since 1950[edit]

Rotax own web page here says that Lohner scooters used Rotax engines from 1950. I'm guessing that they produced the engines then in 1959 merged the companies. Fromthehill (talk) 16:59, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That appears to be right - various books on google books appear to say that Lohner used propietary Rotax engines before they merged - but my Austrian-German and knowledge of Scooters isn't good enoough to be 100% certain of that.
In particular [1] seems to give a date of 1949 for the start of scooter production. quote "Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg begann Lohner 1949 mit der Herstellung von Rollern nach Plänen und unter der Leitung von Ing. Otto Kauba. Dieser von einem Rotax- Motor (Lizenz Sachs) eher mäßig schnell fortbewegte Roller war ab 1950 käuflich ..."
Also found http://www.strassenbahn-europa.at/strassenba_02.htm which is more useful. I'll change it to 1949.Mddkpp (talk)
It looks like motorscooter production didn't begin in 1959 with the merger as the article suggest, but in 1949/50
