Name[edit]

The Book of the Wars of the Lord ( סֵפֶר מִלְחֲמֹת יהוה ). Look at the original Hebrew. יהוה is God's name which is Jehovah (English) or Yahweh (Hebrew). Can we please not use the Jewish superstition on Wikipedia in translating the divine name as Lord or LORD? Not only is this offensive the practice is also self-serving. A culture of people or national group does not own the personal name of God as if it was registered. The translation is called The book of the Wars of Jehovah (or Yahweh). Please respect the true translation and call it such. Gorba (talk) 05:44, 2 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The normal practice at Wikipedia is to call something whatever it is usually called in scholarly sources. In this case, according to Google Scholar, there are 415 hits for "Book of the Wars of the Lord," 127 for "Book of the Wars of Yahweh," and 95 for "Book of the Wars of Jehovah." So it looks like the way this article is named is in line with normal scholarly practice. Normally, Wikipedia simply follows normal scholarly practice, and does not attempt to "improve" or "correct" it. Alephb (talk) 17:21, 13 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
