date[edit]

"Prior to the arrival ... in the 18th century, B.F. Matthes ....". Should this be 19th? Matthes was born in 1816 I believe and worked on the Galigo in the 1850s Jcwf (talk) 16:26, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Aspect[edit]

I found the following table in Ritumpanna wélenrénngé: sebuah episoda sastra Bugis klasik Galigo (in Indonesian) (ISBN:9789794613184) page 77, Table 6. But I don't know in what section should it be placed in the article. It's about clitic and suffix in Buginese language.

Reference or example missing[edit]

I am interested in finding out what the reference was for the following statement: "Older texts, however, usually did not use diacritics at all, and readers were expected to identify words from context and thus provide the correct pronunciation. As one might expect, this led to erroneous readings; for example, bolo could be misread as bala by new readers." Bugisnese, alternative spelling of Buginese[edit]

You can see the United Nations use 'Bugisnese' in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (OHCHR). Ivan Humphrey (talk) 08:38, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yet, "Bugisnese" is not English, maybe it's Indonesianese. Google scholar gives 148 hits for "Bugisnese"[1], next to 39,200 for "Bugis"[2] and 5,070 for "Buginese"[3]. "Bugisnese" was virtually non-existent before 2000[4], but that was a time before Indonesian academic journals started to publish English-language papers that never went through proficient proofreading, and made carelessly coined neologisms such as "Bugisnese" etc. pass to appear in print. So I don't think "Bugisnese" qualifies as an alternative name to be mentioned in the lead. Unsurprisingly for some, I do feel strongly about this, so I won't revert before hearing comments from other editors, @Juxlos, Masjawad99, Gunkarta, and JarrahTree: your thoughts? –Austronesier (talk) 14:30, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

what an absurd rendition - ( I wouldnt even bother to deal with logarithms from alien cultures,) the simple point is such a term was not being utilised when I was in Indonesia in the mid 1990s. If you have lots of spare time, check the spelling of sukarno and suharto articles and the edit history since the beginning of wikipedia, to realise how even the old and new and spelling can be so time wasting and disruptive, to deal with 'invented' terms hardly qualifies regardless of whether utilisations from left field show up JarrahTree 14:39, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Austronesier: Obviously there's no need to include all the supposed "alternative" names. "Bugisnese" is an unnecessary neologism, and it's hardly notable enough to merit inclusion. Masjawad99^💬 15:05, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
