Featured article in Fortified England Newsletter March 2010[edit]

Burrow Mump is the featured article in the Fortified England newsletter for this month (March 2010) but it has not appeared on their web site. It is quite well written and supported by a wide range of references and I'd like to use it to improve this article - but as it is only available to people on their mailing list I'm not sure how to use it as a reference?— Rod talk 18:35, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alright....the name drew me in. Will drop notes below and tweak as I go....cheers, Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 04:08, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Try to avoid two consecutive sentences starting with "Although..." in the lead
  • The Etymology section looks a bit silly with just one sentence - can it be expanded or merged or something?
  • Merged into Early use.— Rod talk 07:59, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Archeological surveys have shown some Roman material and three medieval pits. - err, what sort of material...and more about the pits? (also should there be an 'a' in Archaeology if Brit English?
  • I've added a bit more re Roman coins etc & possible well but there isn't much out there. Spelling of Archeology changed.— Rod talk 07:59, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Any info on the origin of the connection with King Alfred would be good, even though connection false
  • Always difficult to "source a negative" but I will look.— Rod talk 07:59, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've found and added a little on the connection with Athelney Abbey which was founded by Alfred.— Rod talk 09:01, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • The plateau at the top is 45 metres (148 ft) by 25 metres (82 ft)... - I'd round them to the nearest never mind, rounded these myself...
  • Can we add anything of its environs? I don't get a clear idea of where it is..in suburbs, rural area or what really. If anything to add, add to geology section and maybe call geology and environs.

*Myghell-borough -I'd italicise this - either because its in middle english or because it is emphasised word-as-word.

  • Excavations have shown evidence of a 12th-century masonry building on the top of the hill. - anything we can expand upon here?
  • This seems to be linked to the earlier "probable" adulterine castle, but I'm unable to find more info. The two mentions of this could be combined which would leave the sentence on terracing as a very stubby para.— Rod talk 11:22, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • The National Trust was taken to court for nuisance - is "nuisance" as specific legal term here? If so a link would be good... thanks - I'd never heard the term before...
