Edit request on 19 June 2012[edit]

Adding his appearance on Jimmy Fallon (18th June 2012) and how it is his first appearance on any kind of talk show.

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made.

Edit request on 2 August 2012[edit]

The next week on Raw, Cm Punk claimed that he was not sorry for his actions, that The Rock had interrupted him & the show should end with him in the spotlight each night thus turning into a tweener. Later that night John Cena faced The Big Show to determine who would face Punk for his title at Summerslam. Punk attacked Cena & Big show thus resulting in a double disqualification & and he announced that there is no winner. But the new GM of Raw AJ Lee said Cm Punk ail face both Show & Cena at Summerslam. 69.70.160.2 (talk) 05:21, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Wrestlers trained[edit]

The source is false. Punk did not train Pelle Primeau, Mitch Franklin/Grizzly Redwood, Bobby Dempsey or Derick Dempsey. They all joined the ROH school after Austin Aries took over as trainer. 72.197.18.6 (talk) 19:44, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

tattoos[edit]

Punk has a skull of some sort or something on his chest. He also now has a skull tattoo with what appears as wings around it with a word an top. Im not sure exactly what it says but these 2 are missing from the tattoo section so if someone could add them. BlackDragon 00:27, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

"please change "On October 31, CM Punk strong-armed his way into a match with Del Rio at Survivor Series," to "On November 20, CM Punk strong-armed his way into a match with Del Rio at Survivor Series," because that is the correct date of the Survivor Series 2011". Theno1katzman (talk) 18:20, 19 October 2012 (UTC) CM Punk legendary WWE title reign began at the Survivor Series in 2011. Here is an article describing the play by play of the match.

quote for the source 151 footnote leads to http://www.wwe.com/shows/raw/2011-10-31/results and has nothing to do with the Survivor Series.

Theno1katzman (talk) 18:20, 19 October 2012 (UTC) {{cquote|It looks like Alberto Del Rio will be defending his WWE Title against CM Punk after all. After being knocked out cold by Big Show’s mighty fist, The Mexican Aristocrat awoke to find himself in the wrenching agony of The Straight Edge Superstar’s Anaconda Vise. With no choice but to agree to Punk’s demands for a WWE Title Match at Survivor Series or risk having his arm broken, Del Rio consented and the bout became official. Now that’s what you call hostile negotiations.

Effectiveness of Moves[edit]

Under "In wrestling", we should put the effectiveness of moves based on where in a pinfall it would get them. For instance, very effective moves could be the roundhouse, Koji clutch, diving elbow drop, etc. It would also be useful to see how often he uses certain moves. Rope hung arm trap can openers are used almost never, while corner step up high knee followed by running bulldogs are seen almost always. It would be awesome to see this in other wrestler's pages, too. Please consider and respond. Thanks for reading.209.213.145.236 (talk) 21:28, 21 October 2012 (UTC) he has held the wwe champion for a year

Heel turn?[edit]

For Punk's "WWE Champion (2011-present)" section, should it be re-edited to "WWE Champion and Heel Turn (2011-present)" with Punk being a villain presently? Jedi Striker (talk) 05:31, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

We do not use wrestling jargon such as heel or face turns in headings. Considering he was only heel two two years ago anyways. STATic message me! 05:54, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
Also that section starts in mid-2011, so for a year of that Punk has been a face. Shall we have the header "WWE Champion and babyface and heel turn (2011-present)"? Probably best not. Tony2Times (talk) 13:15, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
Fair enough. But I've seen wrestling jargon used in Chris Jericho's headings. Jedi Striker (talk) 18:08, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Edit request on 8 January 2013 In the section WWE Champion (2011–2013)[edit]

Please change "Despite his injury, Punk became the longest reigning WWE Champion on December 5, when he hit 381 days, surpassing John Cena's 380 day reign." to "Despite his injury, Punk became the longest reigning WWE Champion of the modern era on December 5, when he hit 381 days, surpassing John Cena's 380 day reign because it is not true. CM Punk, of course, is the longest reigning WWE Champion, but of the modern era, i.e., for these 25 years. Therefore, I suggest that the information should be edited and changed to avoid any kind of confusion. TheABPunk 08:03, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

I've corrected the article. NiciVampireHeart 04:09, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

Notability of fan altercation[edit]

Would it be worth mentioning the time that Punk mistakenly decked the wrong fan that time he entered the stands? Comparisons could be made to the Pacers–Pistons brawl when Artest mistakenly charged someone who didn't throw a drink at him (allowing the guy who did throw the diet coke, Green, to attack him).

This may happen a lot in various sports but I imagine more often in Pro Wrestling. If not a mention on Punk's page, perhaps an article about these altercations in general (emphasis on wrestling) could be made. Ranze (talk) 22:27, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

Edit Request[edit]

"Punk ... is officially recognized as the sixth-longest reigning champion of all time," actually, Punk is the FIFTH longest reigning champion, with the sixth longest reign, as Bruno Sammartino is listed twice in the top five championship reigns. So I request the edit be made to either "fifth-longest reigning champion" or "sixth-longest championship reign." Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.176.147.249 (talk) 18:07, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

"Relationship" Rumors / Unsubstantiated / Possibly Fabricated /Pointless Crap / Non-Facts[edit]

While it appears that they have some kind of friendship, neither has ever claimed that it was more than that. Also Matt Hardy's comment was that they were not in a relationship not that they had been but it is now over. Whoever wrote this article is greatly stretching the source to say something it doesn't. Also the sun is by no means a reliable source. It's a gossip site. TMZ is more reliable. I work for the AP. We view the sun as a punch line.

Shannon and Tracy are unsubstantiated rumors and should be removed from the article. Beth has claimed that Punk was joking with the interviewer. She claims that she and Punk never dated and she was already with Edge at the time of the alleged relationship. It has already been removed from her Wikipedia page.

Glad to see the Beth part removed, but I think you might have stopped halfway. Neither Punk nor Lita have ever confirmed to be more than friends. Same can be said for Matt Hardy.

Also, Punk has always denied dating women he has worked with. More editing is required. This is an article for verifiable information only.

Not sure why these changes have not been made yet. Even if all of these supposed relationships, other than AJ of course, were real, they do not merit a mention in the article as they are insignificant.

Personal Life[edit]

He is a well known fan of the Chicago Bears, Cubs, Blackhawks, and Bulls. He can often be seen wearing a Cubs hat.

He has either 2 or 3 surrogate sisters and is known to not have any contact with his biological family since he was a teen. He calls his friend Chez his sister and her mom his mom. Another sister of his is his "little sister Shaylene" referenced when trash talking Kevin Nash on Raw in Sugust 2011. His family attended extreme rules 2012 in Chicago.

Colt Canana is his best friend and Punk says that he considers him his brother. Kofi Kingston is his "road wife" and travels with him on the wwe tour.

He has stated that he believes TNA to be an indie league. He says his favorite comic book hero is batman because he thinks he is the most relatable.

He is real life friends with WWE superstars Kofi Kingston, The Miz, Zack Ryder, Edge, and Sheamus, as well as Divas Maryse Oulette, AJ Lee, Beth Pheonix, and Eve Torres, along with her fiancé Renner Gracie, son of the UFC founder and owner Rorion Gracie. He refers to Eve as Steve and Maryse as Maurice.

He is well known for his sarcastic nature in interviews. He has appeared at Comic Con in 2011 and 2012.

Punk has stated that he never wanted to be anything other than a professional wrestler. His dream Autitude Era opponent is Stone Cold Steve Austin. He says his favorite wrestlers in childhood were "Macho Man" Randy Savage, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, Austin, and HBK Shawn Michaels.

CM Punk Face Turn 2013[edit]

Ever since CM Punk returned on June 16th at the WWE Pay per view Payback, he has showed signs of a face turn due to the fact that Paul Heyman disturbed Punk during his match against Chris Jericho and therefore Punk being dissapointed with Heyman. Furthermore, on the following episode of Money night Raw, Punk confronted the newly turned heel Alberto Del Rio. This further cemented Punk's face turn since it meant more dispute between Heyman and Punk, as Heyman was referring Punk to be his 'client' whereas Punk claimed that he was just Heyman's friend, which gained more of a positive reaction from e fans. Punk's face turn was mostly cemented when after the match with Del Rio, Brock Lesnar returned and attacked Punk. — Preceding unsigned comment added by The Best Dazzler (talkcontribs) 16:13, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

thanks Ahmed32917 (talk) 16:12, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

That constitutes original research. Seeing a move on YouTube isn't considered a reliable source. — Richard BB 22:13, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
Also keep in mind that we have a list of signature or finishing moves here, not a complete moveset. Things like vertical/snap suplexes are quite basic moves that most professional wrestlers of the last half-century commonly use. Remember, even a short match can have twenty moves, and a wrestler like Punk has 8-10 matches per month, some quite long. A match needs basic moves to fill between the opening bell, signature spots and finish. A wrestler cannot invent new moves for each match, so must repeat things like suplexes, armdrags, dropkicks and chops (among many other).
What you'll need is a source calling a move of his a signature/trademark/favourite or similar. Something like this or this. A match review from a reliable source which says something like "Punk hits his signature suplex" would also be OK. But a review which says "Punk hits a suplex" would not, even if you have a thousand of those. InedibleHulk (talk) 23:29, September 14, 2013 (UTC)

Edit Request: Steel Domain Training School[edit]

Who Punk is dating[edit]

It seems that every month someone new is reported that Punk is dating. Do we really need to include this information? Whether it's Lita, someone from ROH, Lita again, and now apparently AJ, it seems we're in danger of becoming a celebrity magazine. Plus, I'm not so sure the websites, which seem to base themselves on rumour, can be considered reliable sources. Can we do away with this gossip column? — Richard BB 16:30, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

I agree. Everything without a proper source should go in the first place, but Wikipedia is not a tabloid (per WP:BLP), so every single relationship he's had shouldn't be detailed. If he's had notable long term relationships then those can probably stay.LM2000 (talk) 20:45, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
Instead of all the little reports of they broke up in..., they started dating in..., because frankly we do not know exactly when, just when it was discovered/reported. Whichever relationships are sourced to have happened, we can say in the article, "Over his career Punk has dated various female wrestlers (or divas) such as __, __ and ___." That would significantly cut down on the puff that was already there. When it was removed were any of the relationships backed by reliable sources? STATic message me! 16:29, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
I agree with Static's idea. I would suppose his dating life is somewhat notable but as said above, Wikipedia is not a tabloid. Antoshi 17:02, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

One of Wikipedia's best articles? Really!?[edit]

Ya gotta be kidding? Why there's more detail in our article on Winston Churchill than I can find here on the legendary Punk. WP:DUE, broadly understood, should dictate that we need to go into far more detail on major "sports-entertainment" figures, than we do on seminal figures in world political history. Badmintonhist (talk) 21:12, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

If you have a problem with its FA status, then create an FA review. Otherwise, I don't see how coming to the article's talk page to voice your bewilderment benefits the article in any way. Antoshi 21:29, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Sounds like you should be bringing your complaints to Winston Churchill if they are lacking major details on that article. Unless you have explicit constructive suggestions, then I don't know what to tell you about this particular article. The only section that I think needs trimming is the paragraph on his love life, which has been discussed previously but no changes were ever made.LM2000 (talk) 21:39, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

I disagree. I think this is one of the best WWE articles on Wikipedia that has tons of details about Punk and his characteristics, and pictures where they should be. retirment[edit]

Wow, one month later and we still talking about retirment, truth or lie. This isn't speculation. CM Punk said he is retired. Also, PWInsider, a reliable source, said so. We don't judge the sources, we write what sources say. For example, Low Ki retired a few months (also, 34 years old) and now he is wrestling. Ric Flair retired in 2008 and one year later he was wrestling against Hulk Hogan in Australia. Until Punk'll return to a ring, he is retired (even if a magazine writer wants to spectulate if he isn't retired.) --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 23:26, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

PWInsider says another source says so. Why not use that actual source instead, instead of second-hand reports? Because it doesn't say this at all. A reporter asks how it feels to be retired at 35. Not "retired from wrestling". He could just as well mean how does it feel to withdraw and have your privacy and seclusion, to which "It feels good" would make a lot of sense.
When a wrestler retires in the career sense, he typically announces it, like Flair or Low-Ki did. After all these months, the only thing you have to grasp at is the implication you read in what Punk didn't challenge in one word that one reporter used, likely correctly. That's it. That should tell you something. InedibleHulk (talk) 09:03, July 12, 2014 (UTC)
We shouldn't interpretate the sources. I think the source is pretty clear, Punk is retired. PWInsider (I put PW because it's reliable) stills calling Punk as retired. Maybe we have few information, but I think it's clear about Punk's status. I mean, we have a source called "CM Punk is retired" and we say "he isn't retired". --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 11:32, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, we shouldn't. And that's what you (and all the other sources who cite the Red Eye interview) do. It's stupid to put that much weight on an ambiguous comment, especially when we have Vince McMahon making an official, straighforward, quoted statement that Punk is on a sabbatical. It's even Wikilinked in the article, but just to be clearer, it's "a rest from work, or a break, often lasting from two months to a year." Or, according to Merriam-Webster's only definition, "a period of time during which someone does not work at his or her regular job and is able to rest, travel, do research, etc." That jives with the idea that he's retired in the non-career sense, but not if he was retired like a pensioner.
But what would the guy who owns Punk's contract and runs the company know, compared to Internet recyclers and their interpretations, eh? InedibleHulk (talk) 20:37, July 12, 2014 (UTC)
PWInsider says Punk is retired. So, the article shows Punk is retired. No interpetation, source to article.
I opened a a section at the talk page in the Project. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 20:47, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
PWInsider says another source says it. It doesn't. This is clear by looking at the source PWInsider claims says it, regardless of how many times you say PWInsider says it themselves. InedibleHulk (talk) 20:49, July 12, 2014 (UTC)
However, PWInsider stills saing Punk is retired (I read a few weeks ago ina Q&A). I know the interview is ambigous, but the fact is Punk answered to the question "it's fine". It indicates Punk is retired. Maybe, the best idea is to talk about it with the poject --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 20:54, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
Keyword... "indicates"... as in not official. Until there is concrete evidence to say he is retired, InedibleHulk (talk) is right. Jeffhardyred (talk) 19:26, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
Indicate: "to show that (something) exists or is true". If you use a verb at all, "hinted" or "suggested" might be better, but we'd still have no idea if Punk intentionally hinted, or if people are reading too far into it on their own. InedibleHulk (talk) 19:59, July 13, 2014 (UTC)
UPDATE: I surrender. Another editor stuck this video in an edit summary. Though I don't believe a word of it, and think I got the joke, he did certainly say the right words. Verifiability, not truth. If anyone wants to go full-on mark, they could technically add the "never ever" part, too, and it'd all be nice and legal. InedibleHulk (talk) 09:22, July 24, 2014 (UTC)

I added the Tribune Story to the Brown page, as it seemed a more appropriate place. More than something specific to CM Punk, this appears to be a more general attitude issue towards Brown due to his past transgressions. Jeremy112233 (Lettuce-jibber-jabber?) 18:54, 10 July 2014 (UTC)

In Colt Cabana's Art of Wrestling podcast interview with CM Punk, Punk explicitly mentions "[needing] a beef sandwich" at a Chicago Blackhawks game. This occurs at the one hour and fifty minutes and thirty second mark of the interview. He refers to this again later, in the same segment.

This suggests Punk is no longer a pescetarian, which his article states he is under the "Personal life" section.

Yay! (talk) 02:18, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

Fascinating perspective... but primary source only backing it up unfortunately. Jeremy112233 (Lettuce-jibber-jabber?) 04:25, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

What do you mean by this? The policy for acceptable change conditions is unclear for me. What further sources would be necessary for the change? The entry on his page is only supported by a response on his Twitter, while the above information is stated multiple times, directly by him. Is the issue related to that fact that one source is a direct answer and the other is implied (albeit very heavily, considering people typically buy sandwiches to eat). Yay! (talk) 02:45, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, it's the implication thing. Filling in the blanks is original research. Maybe he wanted to throw it on the ice after a goal. Maybe it was tofu beef. Or sea cow. Or it was AJ's hot dog dessert. Maybe he needed it to trade for something, like in an adventure game. Maybe it was all just a story. Wrestlers have been known to stretch the truth now and then. There's a lot we don't know about this alleged sandwich, but keep digging! The truth is out there. InedibleHulk (talk) 08:28, December 7, 2014 (UTC)
I think that we can use Twitter as an adequate source. Twitter verification is a stringent and difficult to attain status and is literally the word of the beholder. In fact, there just isn't a more reliable source than that. It would be a very weak argument to say that a tweet is unreliable possibly due to someone hacking the account. People with credibility on twitter only follow many 100 people, and those are all people with just as much credibility and fame that are close to them. If someone got hacked, one of their friends would be quick to cover for that person declaring the statement false, the account would be shut down until the password could get reinstated, then whatever tweet that was forged would get deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chewbakadog (talkcontribs) 09:37, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

MMA stuff[edit]

@InedibleHulk: and @Shrine Maiden: - what's going on here? Maiden admits There's not much to write about his "MMA career" now anyway - and we have three whole paragraphs - what? Doesn't matter who challenged him unless there's a scheduled fight. Criticism of UFC is for the UFC article. It's not for Punk's. We need to cut these unneeded speculation and irrelevant information - the "week-by-week" as you know it, Hulk. I've hidden the extra stuff pending starship.paint ~ regal 09:52, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

What's with "admits"? I did not commit a crime or anything, I don't have to "admit" anything. The stuffs I write are cited, and they are all related to the signing of CM Punk. MMAjunkie is a reliable enough source. Don't go deleting it just because you don't like it. Shrine Maiden 10:04, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
@Starship.paint:And yes, there's only 3 paragraphs, compared to those 3000 paragraphs about his WWE career. Shrine Maiden 10:15, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
  • Here's what actually happened. 1) He signed. 2) Nothing else. No specific debut date than year, no debut fight, no confirmation of anything. Seriously. Let's stick to the facts. This is a featured article, supposed to have high quality. starship.paint ~ regal 09:57, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
Who made the rule of 1) He signed. 2) Nothing else. ?? I'll tell you what else happened: UFC President talked to the press about the signing of CM Punk, other MMA fighters reacted to the signing of CM Punk. Why can't they be in the article? Shrine Maiden 10:06, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
@Shrine Maiden: - we don't parrot everything that a reliable source says. We are an encyclopedia - we have standards and only should include the most relevant information from WP:RS. According to Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 141#MMA reliability - Bleacher Report is unreliable (no editorial oversight) - and MMAJunkie has seen some opposition as a reliable source. You've already reverted me twice, warning you to not exceed WP:3RR. You've introduced WP:OR into the article here, demonstrating that you've not read the article - the source says We’ll put him against someone who’s 1-1, 2-1 or something like that and you inserted he's facing a (0-0) person. Askren and Fowlkes were commenting on UFC instead of Punk. starship.paint ~ regal 10:28, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
@Starship.paint:Ugh... it's you who did not read the article. Last line: "CM Punk, we would bring him in just like any regular fighter, and he would fight a guy with a similar record to his, which is 0-0." - UFC President Dana White. source So read before accusing me of inserting WP:OR, pal. Shrine Maiden 10:33, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
And those guys were directly commenting about the signing of CM Punk and the reason behind it, to which UFC President responded, admitting that one of the reasons Punk was signed is because he will sell PPV tickets. It's not unrelated. Askren also called Punk "a fake wrestler", pretty much commenting about CM Punk. Shrine Maiden 10:35, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
Fine, I didn't read the last line, but the source, White definitely says as well at We’ll put him against someone who’s 1-1, 2-1 or something like that - tenth paragraph. You see? That's the problem. Even Dana White is contradicting himself because nothing is confirmed yet. Let's wait for his first scheduled opponent and date for fight to come out, then we post on Wikipedia. Askren is criticizing UFC more than Punk, but if we're including Askren we open the door to include everyone else like the guy who said "Why?" and Ronda Rousey as well. We have to draw the line somewhere. starship.paint ~ regal 10:41, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
Similar to 0-0, not "exact same" to 0-0. The key word is "similar", hence it can be 1-0 guy, 0-1 guy.. guys who are rookies. Right now his first fight is NOT announced, so what UFC president says about it should be in the article. Why are you so against it? Shrine Maiden 10:47, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
@Starship.paint:Draw the line behind Askren, please. Shrine Maiden 10:50, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

My trim[edit]

First, let me state - WP:BLP applies to CM Punk. The burden of evidence rests with the editor who adds or restores material. - the burden of proof is on those who wish to retain, restore, or undelete the disputed material. - If it is to be restored without significant change, consensus must be obtained first. In this case, @Shrine Maiden: is adding the information.

  • Let's see the contradictions / disputed info currently present in the article. 1) He "signed a multi-fight contract" but according to Dana White: He could be one and done, or he could have a career here. I don’t know. We’ll see. So, let's not mention a multi-fight contract. 2) He "was quickly challenged by several UFC veterans on Twitter", but according to Dana White, Punk is going to have to fight rookies in his first fight at least. So, let's not mention UFC veterans. 3) "sole motivator" is not a direct quote from White. 4) Why is Askren important? He's likely biased due to UFC not signing him. Dana White is an important figure in MMA. Askren? Nope. starship.paint ~ regal 11:59, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
@Starship.paint: About 1): You clearly don't understand how UFC contracts work. Usually a guy signs a multi-fight contract, but he's not obliged to finish all the fights (like signed a 6 fights contract but got injured after 2 fights, retired). Anderson Silva just signed a new 13 fights contract with UFC, but the guy is old and just broke his leg, no one actually believes that he WILL do all 13 fights. Let's see: Yahoo!, Sherdog all reporting it's a multi-fight deal (Sherdog is about as credible as it is when it comes to MMA). It's just how UFC contracts work, you sign a 12 fights contract, not really going to have to fight 12 fights (due to injury, losing streak, being fired, etc), there is NO CONTRADICTION.
About 2): They still did challenge Punk, maybe if he has guts, he'll accept them as his 2nd, 3rd fight? Why not mention? There's huge paragraphs about Phil's "feuds" with [insert WWE character names], about his gimmick, about his knuckle tattoo, his chest tattoo, his ass tattoo, why not mentioning that he got tons of challenges after signing with UFC? And I wasn't the one who added that information.
About 3): Yup.
About 4): Askren is an undefeated champion in multiple MMA promotions. Currently ranked top 10 by Sherdog. Not important figure in MMA? :/ Shrine Maiden 12:37, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
  • @Shrine Maiden:, I restored "multi-fight contract". On 2) feuds, if Punk does indeed fight someone who challenge him in the future, we can always retroactively add the information that they challenged him before his debut. This isn't WWE where every feud is scripted. we have no idea whether it will actually lead to a match. On 4) To me, Askren is someone still on the way up as opposed to an established "name" in MMA - someone on the level of Tito Ortiz, Jon Jones, Anderson Silva etc. starship.paint ~ regal 13:16, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
  • @Starship.paint: 2) Like I said, I did not add that information, you should talk to the user who did. 4) The guys you mentioned are UFC fighters. MMA is not just UFC (even though it's the biggest promotion right now). Fighters like Fedor Emelianenko (did not fight in UFC), Mirko Cro Cop (failed misserably in his UFC career) are still very important figures. When a top 10 guy in the world, a multiple times MMA champion has something to say about the CM Punk signing, calling him "a fake", it's not totally irrelevant to the subject. Shrine Maiden 13:35, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
I didn't add the Askren thing (though he is a star, and his reaction did make the news), but did add the UFC challenges. Figured they illustrated his drawing power, and gave readers an idea of who might be in line. Nothing binding, of course, but Twitter beefs do influence the matchmaking. Just had Bisping vs Rockhold, based largely on tweeting. Not a huge deal, but I think it's worth noting. In UFC as well as WWE, feuds matter. Just a bit more genuine.
We shouldn't start suddenly calling him "Brooks", in any case. His common name followed through to UFC, and the sources reflect this. They mention his birth name, but refer to him as Punk. As he said in his AoW, he's been CM Punk for eight years longer than he was just Phil, even among friends. Always been Punk to the public. InedibleHulk (talk) 23:08, December 7, 2014 (UTC)
  • I'm glad Shrine Maiden brought up Fedor and Cro Cop. These are men with numerous, numerous accolades, and I'm glad if we were adhering to that standard. Fedor has more than twice the MMA fights than Askren, Cro Cop has more than thrice. Regarding the Twitter feuds, I suggest adding in a hidden note in the article with the url and names of people who called Punk out. If they really are confirmed to be having a match, then we can re-add this information, otherwise it's not that important IMO. starship.paint ~ regal 23:21, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
Those two are definitely more famous than Askren, but Askren (a current and former major champion in his own right) is more relevant to this particular story, given his long-running UFC drama. The Twitter stuff wasn't about actual matches, it was to show Punk has extraordinary heat from day one. Scan throught the recent signings at List of current UFC fighters and try to find an experienced and talented guy who was called out by even one Top Ten fighter. After you don't, maybe you'll appreciate how this is unusual enough to be noteworthy. InedibleHulk (talk) 23:46, December 7, 2014 (UTC)
Wikipedia is not a promotional tool, but it would be in everyone's best interest to help get the actual Green Power Ranger out of Instagram and into the Octagon. #IgnoreAllRules. Askren (or anyone) can't just smash Punk (or lose to him). Gotta build heels with squash matches, before an epic battle can make sense. Jason David Frank is the perfect first step toward a gigantic angle with One FC, Askren, Asia and the Internet vs UFC, Punk, Reebok and the TV.
It sounds a bit too stupid to work, but so did Power Rangers and Facebook. Still do. InedibleHulk (talk) 04:25, December 8, 2014 (UTC)
CM Punk was fired on his wedding day and Jason David Frank was rebanished to obscurity on Christmas morning. He had a good year as the only Wikipedia-endorsed candidate, though. Cheers to a 2016 with anyone but Pendred! InedibleHulk (talk) 12:29, December 28, 2015 (UTC)

Twitter investigation[edit]

Can we confirm whether or not Punk still operates the @CMPunk handle? When I checked out https://twitter.com/CMPunk today it says "Coach" and shows some hockey guy.

It's retweeting a bunch of Chicago Black Hawks and Thor stuff so it seems like him, but it's odd that it doesn't show him or anything...

Is it possible he can't use his WWE-related images or something? Still no UFC background... odd. Ranze (talk) 06:50, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

Why wouldn't he be? It's well known (and it's in this article) that he's a Blackhawks fan and he likes comics. The Coach name on the account has been there since early last year and the account is still verified. There's no evidence to suggest it's not still him. CRRaysHead90 | #RaysUp 01:24, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
The "hockey guy" is Reg Dunlop of the Chiefs, better known as Paul Newman from Slap Shot. But yes, this is CM Punk's account. InedibleHulk (talk) 17:40, January 27, 2015 (UTC)

Relating to the recent lawsuit, wondering if we can verify whether https://twitter.com/wwedocamann belongs to Chris Amann or not, in case he makes (or made) statements relating to it. Ranze (talk) 02:48, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

Orphaned references in CM Punk[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of CM Punk's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 17:42, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

FA review[edit]

I am planning to submit this article for a featured article review. Its prose is good but its references, as indicated in the post about orphaned links above, is totally below standard. The reference formatting is inconsistent are there are many bare and broken links. This would be significant task to resolve but I must point it out under the FA review procedure. The MRSA initialism won't come up if someone is searching "staph" in the article. Would it be okay to spell out Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in full once before abbreviating it?

Also we should keep the mention of AJ's doctor in here since his alleged diagnosis is critical to the accusation. Ranze (talk) 07:32, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

Extremely easy. In the beginning it would be much more accurate to list this gentlemen's other professions first since and then list Mixed Martial Artist, or add the word "aspiring" at the front of Mixed Martial Artist as he made this announcement a long time ago and has yet to fight. It is also listed as doubtful that he will ever fight. It's not a big thing, but this guy is a pro wrestler who made a big announcement he would fight in the UFC and in two years can't make an entry level fight. 99% of the world doesn't care, but it is an insult to any UFC fighter that he is listed as a Mixed Martial Artist first under his description. Thank you for your time.

ARIDE77 (talk) 05:48, 20 May 2016 (UTC)

Done: I've re-ordered his professions and added "upcoming" prior to mixed martial artist, to make it clear that he has not fought yet. Though, I'd recommend being less condescending in the future. Prefall 06:54, 20 May 2016 (UTC)

Fighting part of his fighting career needs expansion[edit]

We currently have three paragraphs of odds and ends around the fight, but one sentence about the fight itself (which just relays the table). I've tried a few ways, but nothing gets through.

If someone else finds this omission weird, maybe you can phrase it better than I did. Lots of two-minute fights end by RNC, but a blowout like that is rare. James Toney's article at least mentions how quickly the takedown happened. InedibleHulk (talk) 01:09, September 24, 2016 (UTC)
