Current name[edit]

I'm just getting my head around the issues with the the subject's current family name, as there seems to have been a dispute on the issue. Danjuma was her married name, but I gather that she has been credited as "Caroline Hutchings" in the recent movie Stalker. Depending on the article she is referenced as Caroline Danjuma, Caroline Hutchings, Caroline Hutchings-Danjuma, Caroline Ekanem, and Caroline Ekanem-Danjuma. Any suggestions on how to resolve this? - Bilby (talk) 12:26, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • WP:COMMONNAME is the usual guideline on this, although this seems like it would fall under WP:NAMECHANGES too if my guess as to what's going on is correct (nobody needs to fill in this blank). We can also go by the wishes of the subject if they don't conflict with reliable sources (an unreferenced name fails WP:V). That seems to be the problem currently: there is no information in the article indicating that her name is Hutchings. I move-protected the page yesterday because of an evident title dispute, but of course I don't object to any move if there is consensus. And whatever we decide the title should be, we should have redirects from her other names pointing here.
From the information available, she was born Caroline Ekanem, then took her husband's name Danjuma in 2007, but they separated in 2016; now she wants to go by Hutchings. We can establish a rough timeline of how she's known by sources:
I can't find good sources on her early work but IMDb has her credited as Caroline Ekanem throughout her early career, which makes sense since this mostly predates her marriage. As for ghits:
I think it's clear that her common name (the one she's most well-known by) is Caroline Danjuma. However, if she wants to be known as Caroline Hutchings now we can make that work, but there needs to be something in the article explaining it. Let me just correct a few impression. I have watched the film Stalker, and I just finished reviewing the opening and closing credits in the film some seconds ago. The name used was Caroline Danjuma. I can provide a VLC snapshot of the credits if it is necessary. She has not acted in a notable film with "Hutchings". Many references still use Caroline Danjuma more than any other combination of names. Until she uses Hutching in a film before it should be changed. For now, its perfect this way.Darreg (talk) 14:50, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Edit: How her name was written at the cast of the film at the beginning, How her name was written at the cast of the film at the end, How her name was written as the producer of the film
We could rewrite the lede something like: "Caroline Hutchings (born xxx), born Caroline Uduak Abasi Ekanem and also known as Caroline Danjuma, is a Nigerian actress." I do see some sources for her changing her name officially. Her (now deleted) Instagram was @carolynahutchings, for example. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 15:04, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Darreg: @Ivanvector: I have forwarded all you have suggested to Caroline & she claims that her birth certificate carries Hutching so I have directed her to send a mail to info-en-q@wikimedia.org as suggested here — Preceding unsigned comment added by Geebee2703 (talkcontribs)
Birth certificate proves nothing. I've never disputed the fact that she now wants to be called "Hutchings". My issue is that it is too early for her Wikipedia article to have that name as its main title. She was already separated from her husband when the film Stalker was released yet she was credited by many references as Caroline Danjuma. As for her DOB, with 10, 000 naira I can get a new certificate in Lagos, for us to change the DOB you will need to provide a certificate that was issued in the 1980s or 1990s. Article dispute September 2019[edit]

In lieu of continuing to revert changes to this article, I have temporarily removed all references to the subject's birth date, since (an editor claiming to be) the subject disputes it but has not provided a reliable source. It's possible this is a case of WP:CITOGENESIS and should be investigated. Some other material that Caroline uduak hutchings has removed in fact should be removed as it is controversial and unsourced. The editor emailed me, I invited them to participate in a discussion here about the content they claim is incorrect and to provide sources that editors can review and verify. Everyone please stop reverting and discuss the changes. (I haven't verified the editor's identity and have no ability to do so). Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 12:59, 18 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I support your action in removing the birth year, I was about doing the same thing only to see that it has already been done. Even better was a recent edit that created a section for the age controversy, allowing the reader to make judgement for themselves. More importantly, I think the representative of the actress needs to seek consensus from talkpage always, before making edits to this article. They don't seem to understand how Wikipedia works. There was a time she stated a disclaimer in her official IG that she doesn't own a Wikipedia article. I was like - do people own Wikipedia articles??
Concerning the article, even though the WP:COMMONNAME is still "Caroline Danjuma", I think it might be a good idea for the first statement to read Caroline Hutchings, formerly Caroline Danjuma and Caroline Ekanem is a Nigerian actress..., this is because she now wants to be known as "Hutchings". This will not affect "Caroline Danjuma" being the primary wikilink for this article.HandsomeBoy (talk) 08:33, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 22 April 2022[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved. Consensus found that the new name "Carolyna Hutchings" has been in sufficient enough use after the name change for us to follow suit. (non-admin closure)Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 03:37, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Moving this to full discussion due the reason why this title was move-protected in the first place: apparently BLP issues with renaming this article. Steel1943 (talk) 22:41, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the ping. I had not seen the above discussion earlier. Princess of Ara 05:35, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think the move is fitting right now. She is a cast member on The Real Housewives of Lagos and is credited as Carolyna Hutchings. See here. Princess of Ara 05:46, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: I was one of the persons that opposed previously, but I agree with Princess of Ara that it is now appropriate. For some years now, she has been casted (and still being casted) with her new name in multiple notable films. No need keeping her husband name as the title. She is divorced, and doesn't want to be associated as such. HandsomeBoy (talk) 19:35, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
