If you add external links to this article, be careful that they fall into WP:EL. Otherwise, a later editor is likely to remove them.

In this particular case:

  • The article does not need a link to both townofcastlerock.org and crgov.com, as they're the same site. Of the two I picked the second, as some links at former point to latter, but I couldn't find any that went the other direction.
  • The article doesn't mention the Chamber of Commerce, so why link to its site [1]? The same goes for the Economic Development Council [2].
  • FOCUS On Castle Rock [3] appears to be a blog and forum about the city. That's great, but it's not an appropriate contribution to the encyclopedia.

In short, WP:EL says that there should be a link to the official entity's site. Anything else that has solid, encyclopedic information is also a good bet. But other than that, it's linkspam, and it should go. Dori (TalkContribs) 06:48, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Demographics typographical error?

[edit]

"The median income for a household in the town was $69,138, and the median income for a family was $712,563."

I suspect that the median family income is either $71,563 or $72,563. This is proportionate with other city articles where the difference between median household income and median family income is a small percentage rather than being in excess of 1000%

Good catch. It is $72,563. By the way, you can always make the change, all I did was look at the references. --Glennfcowan (talk) 21:33, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notorious criminal cases

[edit]

The article is a glowing review of the town, including pristine ratings by Family Circle magazine, Forbes magazine, et al. Nobody wants a negative light shone on their community, but this is Wikipedia, and there are several infamous and notorious crimes in Castle Rock, Colorado's history that should probably be duly noted:

The Castle Rock Murders:
three boys throw two other boys to their deaths from the summit of Castle Rock, April 1943
http://kidnappingmurderandmayhem.blogspot.com/2008/07/castle-rock-murders.html

Jose Luis Rubi-Nava:
nationally famous case of illegal immigrant dragging girlfriend to death behind his truck by her neck, September 2006
http://www.denverpost.com/search/ci_4370227
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14946352/

Castle Rock v. Gonzales:
2005 Supreme Court decision regarding Castle Rock's failure to enforce restraining order, resulting in the murder of three children and culminating in a fatal shoot-out at the Castle Rock police station in 1999
http://www.oyez.org/cases/2000-2009/2004/2004_04_278
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1525280/

Is it Wikipedia policy that negative yet notable historical facts about a community be squelched in order to help maintain a positive profile for said community? Hoping to get some constructive feedback on this.

Not to try to whitewash the town's history, but the Rubi-Nava case was closer to the Lone Tree/Ridgegate area, about 12 miles north. That case in 1943 was in Golden. Their most prominent feature is also called Castle Rock. histrygrrl (talk) 01:19, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Prairie Dog incident

[edit]

I see there has been edit warring about the possible inclusion of an incident involving prairie dogs. I have semi-protected the article temporarily, but the edit warring needs to stop. I am disappointed to see that no effort has been made to discuss the issue here at the talk page. This is the place to reach a consensus about whether the material should or should not be included in the article. --MelanieN (talk) 15:54, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that it should be including, since the event received significant public coverage. There was another issue, which was discussed at WP:COIN#Castle Rock, Colorado- User:CastleRockChick said " My concern is singling out one specific event. There are various stories about Castle Rock that can be sited from news sources. I have no problem including this event if other news stories are also included. Listing only one event makes this article biased by nature." I agree that there should be more events listed, but only if there's significant news coverage (or other reliable sources) of them. Nevertheless, this incident deserves to be here. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:28, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Castle Rock, Sligo, Ireland.

[edit]

Where I come from in Co Sligo, Ireland, there is a Townland called Castle Rock, I wonder is there any connection between your town and ours? I would hazard a guess that people from my area in Sligo settled there in time's past and named it Castle Rock because there was a Castle built on a rock here hence the name. my name is, Alfie Deehan, Raheen, Athenry, Co. Galway. Ireland. Feel free to contact me I speak on Radio Stations in Ireland and the U.S. if you have a Radio Station there that would like to talk to me put them in touch with me.
