answered the call?[edit]

He said he answered the call. No debate — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.191.198.134 (talk) 20:17, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to me that the phrase "answered the call" is a bit biased in favor of Christianity; on a secular website, it seems to assume both the existence of God and that he did, in fact, call Charles Stanley to ministry. If anyone else agrees, please edit it to a better alternative. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.0.135.242 (talk) 16:51, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Why do you even look up Charles Stanley if you don't believe in God? Why must the Atheist step on our beliefs? I do not step on your beliefs or lack there of. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.166.175.129 (talk) 03:55, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with the OP. Also, there is no reason to assume the OP is an atheist, he could be Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, etc.68.100.229.58 (talk) 18:39, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't believe it matters so much whether God in fact exists as it does that Dr. Stanley belives that - he felt called by God and answered it. That is fact whether anyone else believes his call was genuine or not. The article is about him, not to debate the existence of God.Sdacj (talk) 17:05, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

radio evangelist?[edit]

Perhaps this should be moved to Charles Stanley (evangelist), considering I'm watching him on TV (on his regular show) as I write this... --Steven Fisher 02:37, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, he has a television broadcast as well, so the move is appropriate. JungleCat Shiny!/Oohhh! 16:15, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
With all due respect, neither name is very accurate. An "evangelist" is primarily concerned with proclaiming the Gospel to those who have not heard it, like Billy Graham or Luis Palau. Dr. Stanley is a pastor with a multimedia ministry that does reach out to nonbelievers, but is largely aimed at building up, encouraging, and discipling those who are already Christians. ~ MD Otley (talk) 22:17, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Seeing no objections in over three months, I went ahead and made the move to Charles Stanley (pastor). ~ MD Otley (talk) 04:31, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Charles Stanley[edit]

Someone told me that Dr. Charles Stanley died about six months ago. I didn't believe it and started looking online to see if it was true. Does anyone know anything about this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.250.172.127 (talk) 00:12, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would suggest you check his ministry's home page: www.intouch.org. ~ MD Otley (talk) 21:53, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Criticisms[edit]

They criticize Jesus. If you do not like his ministry. Shake the dust.

There have to be some criticisms of this man. I just watched him on tv ironically preaching about false teachers in which he took a 100% literal approach to the bible. Asking his crowd of sheep to point out discrepancies in the bible of which there are many and claiming there are none. By his simple absence from the prison system, I assume he himself overlooked the parts of the bible about stoning children who disobeyed their parents among many other, evident, discrepancies in the bible. The simple fact that he has reached the age that he has indicates that he has been subject to the medical discoveries of germ theory which were made possible by evolutionary theory. His sermon about false teachers stank of hypocrisy as he spouted complete bullshit to a large crowd of people too ashamed and indoctrinated to call him out on his inaccuracies. If there was such a thing as a church heckler, this man truly deserved one as his sermon actually had me laughing out loud at several points. Despite the glaring irony of his message about false teachers, this man will never know just how wrong he is because he himself has been blinded by false information and indoctrination. Speaking of indoctrination, is this guy even a doctor? I've seen other so called Dr. Pastors in the past who simply adopted the title to gain authority and status.

I watched this in Canada which means his erroneous (as all sermons are) teachings should be subject to criticism... Someone please discredit this man before he herds even more unquestioning sheep into his world of lies and/or misconceptions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.85.197.228 (talk) 16:23, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's all very well, but the dicussion area is not a forum, it is a place to discuss how we can better the article. What you said was your opinion of him and his teachings. Wikipedia is strictly for facts only. So take your complaints elsewhere, please. :) ~Reika 麗香 21:13, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
He's questioning why there's no criticisms section -- the message was pretty clear to me - MrGuy.
There's no such section because nobody has provided any reliable sources to base it on, you cant just criticize him yourself and then expect it to be added to an article. Beeblebrox (talk) 04:58, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Concur with Bbb. Anyway, none of the "issues" the IP user mentioned that he has with Dr. Stanley are unique to him, but part of Evangelical Christian doctrine and teaching, some of which can be answered by understanding that most Evangleicals believe in the progressive nature of the revelations of God in the Bible. (This would be like cirticizing Canada for not following the laws of Britian, without bothering to realize that Canada is no longer under Britain's authority.) But I digress. Anyway, I'm not sure what he meant by "I watched this in Canada which means his erroneous ... teachings should be subject to criticism..." means, but again, without reliable sources documenting specific criticisms, especially those that differ from mainstream Evangelical Christianity, there's nothing to base such a section on. - BilCat (talk) 14:55, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Page move[edit]

Does anyone have objections with moving this page to Charles Stanley and moving that page to Charles Stanley (disambiguation)? Perhaps it's recentism, but this Charles Stanley seems to be overwhelmingly the most famous of the various available Charles Stanleys out there. --B (talk) 16:30, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Seeing no objection, done. --B (talk) 22:31, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Stanley vs. Dr. Stanley[edit]

I noticed this article is inconsistent about using Dr. Stanley vs. Stanley. Which is correct in this circumstance? I found many other biographical pages where people with doctorates (mainly Ph.D.s) are never listed as "Dr", see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_Award for some examples. 68.100.229.58 (talk) 18:45, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct. Fixed. --Musdan77 (talk) 03:29, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Defamation[edit]

This article states Charles Stanley died of "tertiary syphilis" and links to an article that does not support the false claim. It comes across as a defamatory, anti-Christian act. 2601:586:CB02:9200:E832:3F86:1D49:92FC (talk) 11:35, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
