ARTICLE IS POORLY SOURCED AND FULL OF RACIST MYTHOLOGY[edit]

This article is currently poorly sourced and is apparently being used to propagate racist mythologies. Most explicit is the unqualified claim that most or all "formerly enslaved individuals... in Brazil... saw that "whitening" themselves was a way to escape from their enslaved past"

What is meant by "whitening" themselves? Is the editor saying that most or all formerly enslaved Brazilians used skin bleach and hair dye? Where is the evidence for this claim? Can the editor provide statistical evidence for this startling claim? If a black or brown skinned Brazilian did engage in 'whitening' themselves, would this not be in response to the racism of the whites who dominated them in their present, not their past?Ackees (talk) 08:17, 11 May 2014 (UTC)

Feedback for Colonial Latin America Class[edit]

Nice additions! I think the regional information and clarification on the myth versus the actual person are definitely important additions! Did or will you add external links? I think that would be helpful! Emilyelizabeth20 (talk) 00:16, 28 October 2017 (UTC)
