Excellent!

Um...It would be nice to have that informative box that most major-league team articles have...

List of Chicago Blackhawks players

There is a List of Chicago Blackhawks players. It would be great if when you added a player to the main article that you could also add him to the list. Thanks! Masterhatch 12 August 2005

NTBF / Hall of Fame reverts

I've reverted that long string of NTBF additions. The Blackhawks' list runs to the Team Page Format of a couple dozen entries, so anyone added must be considered more significant to Blackhawks' history than some other player listed. With the exception of Tony Amonte, it's not the case with those players. Likewise with Orr as a HOF cite; having played only 26 games with Chicago, he doesn't remotely qualify under the format. Ravenswing 11:01, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

Aucoin & Lapointe

I've pointed out at top of article, that Lapointe is serving as captain ,in place of injured Aucoin (shoulder seperation). If anyone agrees/disagrees, by all means revert or keep my recent edit. GoodDay 23:10, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

I've added that Aucoin is still the Blackhawks captain ,although he's injured & out of the lineup. Aucoin wasn't stripped of the captaincy, so I've listed him as a current captain. Lapointe is listed serving as captain in Aucoin's absence from the lineup. These changes were made to match with the Philadelphia Flyers captaincy status. GoodDay 16:51, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

Aucoin is no longer listed as being on the IR (see Blackhawks offical website), however he & Lapointe are still listed as current captains. So, I've left Aucoin & Lapointe as captains (til further notice). Does any object? GoodDay 18:32, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
Guess what, Lapointe no longer listed as a captain on the Blackhawks offical website. As a result, Aucoin has the 'C' all to himself, made the changes to this article (as well as the 'Adrian Aucoin' and 'Martin Lapointe' articles). GoodDay 00:07, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
Aucoin is gone. This should be removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.78.111.191 (talk) 05:01, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Losing Bobby Hull

I think the story of the Wirtz family losing Bobby Hull to the WHA in 1972 needs to be included in this article. This was a monumental moment for this franchise. That event was the start of the disillusionment of Blackhawk fans that still continues to this day. Lester113

NPOV?

"In February of 2004, ESPN named the Blackhawks the worst franchise in professional sports [1] much to the non-attention of owner Bill Wirtz who continues to destroy the franchise year after year."

I'm inclined to agree with the statement, but this appears to violate NPOV. Anyone else think so? 128.135.62.64 20:10, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

Very much so, and I've changed it. Truth be told, the article has a surprisingly negative tone throughout. The Hawks' Cup championships scarcely rate a mention amidst the lavish descriptions of futility, and I don't quite see it; sure, it sucked to be a Hawks' fan in the Fifties, no doubt, but in the Sixties and Seventies the club went a dozen years winning one Cup and appearing in four Cup finals, and it came within a year of tying the Bruins' record for the longest playoff stretch in professional sports history -- a lot of cities out there would like to suck so badly. Ravenswing 01:58, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Feature article candidacy

While I've already chimed in opposing, I've done some work to at least bring the article to a more acceptable level, breaking up the long history, putting in some surprisingly omitted tidbits and taking out some NPOV violations. The article still needs some serious sourcing ... well, just about ANY sourcing would do. Ravenswing 18:10, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Television Coverage and Media Blackouts

I've heard that the Blackhawk owners prevent easy TV access with media blackouts in Chicago and neighboring areas (unless the games are sold-out). Does anyone have any facts on this? I've lived in the Chicago and lower Illinois areas and I can honestly say that I've never seen a televised Blackhawk game. I even had Comcast Chicago.

Blackhawk owner Bill Wirtz has historically refused to air home games since he figures it affects attendance. For the 2005/06 season, they aired one home game against Pittsburg - a game that was sold out any way given it was the first time for Sid the Kid to play in the United Center. All regular season away games were broadcast on Comcast. The Blackhawks do have a contract with Comcast to air 41 games for the 2006/07 season. There are 41 away games so that's likely what will be broadcast, however, if OLN/Versus decides to broadcast a game at the United Center, then league rules will prohibit a local blackout with Comcast, or if Comcast decides not to broadcast an away game because it is being broadcast on OLN/Versus, then the Blackhawks will owe Comcast one home or preseason game.--Feyer 21:28, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

IndianHead Nation

I find it to be unneccesary to have indianhead nation listed as a link.

I visited the site, and it has 5 members at most. It is not established as the leading blackhawks fan site on the web. It is using thsi page for free advertising space, against wikipedia rules --Arusnak 19:28, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Uniforms

the Hawks have arguably the greatest and most respected uninforms in all of american sports. I think a section on the teams uniform history should be added --Arusnak 19:28, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Team captains

I added discriptions to section (By personal memory). Martin & Mikita were co-captains in 1975-76 & first part of 1976-77, then Magnuson became captain. I don't have varifiable sources for this. Therefore I'm calling on Die-hard Blackhawks fans, to confirm this. PS-If anyone disagree's with my edits, then by all means revert, I won't dispute it. GoodDay 18:22, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Martin was captain in 1975-76. Martin & Mikita co-captains in 1976-77, then Keith Magnuson. GoodDay 17:06, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
Update somemore, Martin & Mikita were never co-captains. In 1976-77, captaincy went from Martin to Mikita, then from Mikita to Magnuson. Making further 'proper' edits. GoodDay 17:30, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
Pat Stapleton's captaincy was revoked because he held out for more money during contract negotiations. WHPratt (talk) 18:08, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Here come the Hawks

I recently noticed Wikipedia doesn't have a page for the Hawks intro song, "Here Come the Hawks" I would make one, but don't know all the lyrics or history of the song. can anyone help--Arusnak 23:08, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Franchise orgin

The Canucks have their PCHL/WHL origins; the Oilers, Hurricanes, Avalanche and Coyotes have their WHA orgins. The Blackhawks should have their as well, the Portland Rosebuds of the WCHL. The Blackhawks founding date is before 1926. GoodDay 18:04, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Err, read the article. As the Red Wings did with the Victoria Cougars, the owner of the expansion Black Hawks bought the rights to the Portland players. It is by no means a continuation of the Rosebuds franchise. Ravenswing 20:57, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
You're right, I should read the article first (that's what it's there for). I'm just having a mixed-up kinda day. GoodDay 22:49, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Blackhawks captain, 2004-05

Although the 2004-05 season never existed. The Blackhawks franchise did (still) exist from March 2004 to October 2005 (from when Zhamnov was traded away, until Aucouin was appointed). As a result, the Blackhawks captaincy was vacant during the NHL lockout, being during the lockout the captaincy (along with the franchise) still existed. Since the team captains are listed by 'PERSON' not by 'SEASON'- 'No captain, 2004-05' should be listed in the Team captains section. GoodDay 01:46, 10 March 2007 (UTC) :Forget it, do what you want 'Darthflyer'. GoodDay 02:35, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

I've added 2004-05 NHL lockout tag - example: (Lockout) . This helps explain why the Blackhawks captaincy was vacant during that time. GoodDay 16:47, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Current Roster

Jonathan Toews hasn't attended the Blackhawks 2007 Training Camp (because it occurs in September). It's possible, he could be sent down to the AHL. Until he actually makes the team, I'm keeping him off the 'Current Roster'. GoodDay 16:13, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Jerseys, Mascot

NO jersey mention...I realize this topic is posted above, just thought it should be made clear again. For an Original Six franchise, the jerseys must have a section. Also, no mascot mention. Love each other, or perish. ~Auden 00:22, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Not enough history, really. Though in the future that is an ideal breakpoint. Resolute 17:55, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Strongly agree. Saying it isn't really history is dumb, since they are currently creating history.--Arusnak (talk) 06:03, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

"The Blackhawks finished with a record of 40–34–8, missing the playoffs by three points. The 2007–2008 season marked the first time in six years that the team finished above .500.[17]"

How in the world can anyone quote a team having a .500 record when they only won 40 out of 82 games? a .500 record requires 41 wins according to the laws of mathematics. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.169.88.177 (talk) 23:22, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

In hockey, ".500" is actually referred to in terms of point percentage, not winning percentage. 88 of 164 available points is .537. Resolute 23:52, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

WWW?

I just want to know what does the WWW patch on the jerseys stand for? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.80.61.143 (talk) 17:48, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

"fan traditions"

Pardon me... but what the dear love of god? Is this serious? This section should be deleted altogether, or at least cut back to whatever encyclopedical value there is (protip: it's not much). Those chants, for an instance, are nothing to be proud of, they're plain silly and uninventive. Just compare with what the European football culture has to offer... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.212.57.73 (talkcontribs)

If you feel the material doesn't belong, or requires modification, feel free to make those changes as you see fit. Resolute 15:10, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

I'd rather like to have this edited by someone who is more involved. (I do have a Blackhawks jersey in my closet, but I'm a Bosnian guy living in Germany and doen't have a clue where this jersey may have come from, and neither does my mother.)

broadcasters

dan kelly links to the dead and Blues honored broadcaster. is there an entry for his son that we can link to, or make, or should we just break the linage or make it a red link?Childhoodtrauma (talk) 14:11, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Captaincy

This from a local paper in Chicago: "Savard called Toews a "natural fit" as the next Blackhawks' captain and said that, "Personally, when I sit down with the staff and my coaches, I know that I've got my mind made up. I don't care how young you are. He's that type of person that is going to be a great captain for us. But we'll see before I make a final decision."

That's not an official announcement, and listing Toews as the team captain must wait on one.  Ravenswing  15:25, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

In agreement with RG; also Savard said ...'But we'll see before I make a final decision' - either way, Blackhawks haven't named a captain yet. GoodDay (talk) 23:56, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

I've Noticed The Logo Doesn't Have The Red Face Paint? —Preceding unsigned comment added by KingRaven44 (talkcontribs) 12:27, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Good Eye. The image itself has the red face paint details, but they are not showing up properly. If you view the image source directly (just the .svg file), you will be able to see them. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  20:03, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

IS there anyway to change the logo so it shows up. It looks pretty stupid without it, and it makes wiki lose credibility for not having the proper logo displayed, IMO. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.176.162.24 (talk) 02:13, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

I have changed it. Hopefully it will look better now. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  19:46, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Blundered contracts

Seeing how its likely the NHL and NHLPA are going to have to have a hearing to solve the mess of the qualifying contract offers it might make sense to draw something up in the article that's neutral. Still is a bit of News though but i think its definitely note worthy, Any objections? Ottawa4ever (talk) 01:33, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Certainly warrants mention at 2009–10 Chicago Blackhawks season, but I'd say that it wouldn't mean a whole lot here unless something comes of it. Resolute 01:39, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
I think it should be mentioned on the the 2009-10 'Hawks article regardless of whether it pans or not. I agree with Resolute that we should only mention it here if becomes a big deal. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  01:52, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
Ive added a small amount of info to the season article trying to keep in mind not to add speculation. feel free to re word if you think thats needed Ottawa4ever (talk) 13:44, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the NHL has decided not to take any action. The NHLPA still has a say on the matter. The Chicago Tribune is also reporting that the 'Hawks resigned Ben Eager, Troy Brouwer and Colin Fraser. Currently, Kris Versteeg, Aaron Johnson, and Cam Barker are still unsigned. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  19:27, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
The NHLPA said they would file a grievance, intending that cam barker and Kris Versteeg could become unrestricted free agents. http://www.tsn.ca/ctvnews/?id=283900 More to come probably I wont update the article just yet as a lot still seems unclear and some speculation. Stan Bowman's Nationality

I think it should be changed to an American flag. He was born in Quebec, but has lived in the US since he was 6. He went to college in the US and I believe he is a US citizen. --MichiganCharms (talk) 21:45, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

The standard we use is to use the flag of the country of birth unless they competed for a team internationally, in that case we use the team they represented. -Djsasso (talk) 22:25, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
This would be an excellent example of why the flags should be ditched altogether, even if MOS:FLAG didn't already call for their removal. The nationality of executives is not especially important anyway, while the captain is already flagged in the roster template. Resolute 00:26, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I do not see much utility in showing the flag - it would not really contribute much more to the infobox. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  01:12, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Youtube video

I don't want to seem like I'm spamming or anything. But there apparently is a video supposedly from 1929 on Youtube. It appears to be from an exhibition game between the blackhawks and another unknown team. it may be worth mentioning in the article (but i don't really know how people feel about youtube videos and if its such a good idea to post) anyway its out there if people are curious Ottawa4ever (talk) 15:02, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Interesting clip - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDmc6n79ek0 - and, IMHO, worth linking. There's no reason to assume it's an exhibition game, but I'm likewise unsure of the opponent. More than one team had the barber pole style of jersey in that day and age; my guess would be the Senators, but for all I know it might have been the Cougars.  Ravenswing  17:59, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
The first comment suggests that the white team is the Chicago Shamrocks. ccwaters (talk) 18:14, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
I found a photo on the web when i did a search for Chicago Shamrocks, the jersey does look very similar to ones in the video http://www.gasolinealleyantiques.com/sports/images/postcard/shamrock-mackenzie.JPG . Would the video be better referred to as an external link? or included in the 1926-32 section? Ill post it as a default in the external links for now, unless someone would like to move it into the text. Supposedly the author of the video says that the HHOF has obtained a copy of the video. Ottawa4ever (talk) 20:52, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
External links. It doesn't reference anything in the main body, so really doesn't belong there. As it is, expect someone to challenge the link at some point, as there is a lot of hostility towards linking to Youtube, especially when the copyright status of the videos is questionable. Neat video though. Resolute 23:14, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
Mm, it's an eighty year old clip; I wouldn't say there was any question at all about the copyright status.  Ravenswing  01:10, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
60 years after the death of the creator I believe for something like this. And based on comments on the video page the creator still appears to be alive. -DJSasso (talk) 03:12, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
You would be surprised. Anything published before January 1, 1923 is public domain in the US. There are also dates of 1964 and 1989 that are relevant, but in all cases (according to commons), the word "published" is key. It probably doesn't matter that the video itself is 80 years old, if uploading to YouTube in 2006 was the first published date, it's a copyrighted video. If it was first published in 1980 (as an example), with no notice of copyright, it's PD. Without knowing for certain, we can't claim it to be PD. I think it is fine as an EL, especially being of historical relevance. Someone might disagree, however. Resolute 04:42, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
As to the team, it's not the Maple Leafs. The logo is all wrong, and the stripes across the waist are missing. The Senators did not have an all white jersey. The striping is right for the Cougars, but not the logo. NHL Uniforms is awesome for this sort of thing, heh. I'd probably go with the Shamrocks in an exhibition as well. Resolute 23:17, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

2010-11 season

My reason for linking to the Blackhawks 2010-11 season? their 2009-10 season ended June 9, 2010. We've done this for the 29 other NHL team articles, when their personal seasons ended, the Hawks shouldn't be exempted 'til DraftDay. GoodDay (talk) 22:59, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

As I said in the edit summary; The other 29 teams did not win the Stanley Cup yesterday. Use common sense here, our readers are most likely looking for information about the hawks' cup winning season at this moment, not where they'll be picking in the upcoming draft. —Krm500 (Communicate!) 23:10, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
Common sense is different in each person. Let's see what others have to say. GoodDay (talk) 23:13, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
I agree with Krm500, that readers may likely want info on the most recent season. That's why I've tacked a link on to the end of the introduction. How does that work? —C.Fred (talk) 23:16, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
That's exceptable. GoodDay (talk) 23:18, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
I think it's silly to have a link in such a prominent part of the article to another article with basically no information in it yet. And especially during these couple of days when this article most likely will receive more views then any other days this year. Besides, won't there be a parade or something in the next few days? At least wait until that is over until you declare the season over. —Krm500 (Communicate!) 00:04, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

I made a blunder, there actually were 10 team articles that hadn't been updated to 2010-11 (at the time, the 2010-11 team season articles were being created & likely some forgot to update). These 10 have now been properly updated to match the rest (note: some of the 10 were non-playoff teams). GoodDay (talk) 23:48, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

I agree with Krm500 as well. They are the Cup winners. They've not started re-signing players. Maybe wait until draft day? ʘ alaney2k ʘ (talk) 00:10, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
I think in the past we changed it when the awards show was over. Because then all of last years awards were handed out signaling the end of the season. -DJSasso (talk) 12:34, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
If yas wanna wait 'til then, cool. GoodDay (talk) 19:37, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
Since the Awards have been presented & we're now in the middle of the NHL Entry draft, I've updated to 2010-11. GoodDay (talk) 17:27, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Blackhawks Parade in Chicago

Is there an article or section somewhere regarding the parade in Chicago today? My understanding is that the turnout was substantial (~2million). Perhaps someone could help us get images of it off flickr, or somewhere else? Thanks in advance! ---kilbad (talk) 02:41, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

The appropriate article would be the hawks' season article. —Krm500 (Communicate!) 16:06, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Along with the panorama shot. In reguards to the entire team history of the team the skyline being changed is but a minor fact and would be more appropriate in the season article. As does the majority of information in this section. -DJSasso (talk) 11:42, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
