Neutral Issue

[edit]

Why does it read "souvenir hunters" in regards to those who stole his personal affects and took his uniform after his death. He was in American captivity and his captors (i.e. American soldiers) looted his items in contradiction to international law. They should be labeled as "American looters" or "American bandits" rather than something as mundane, cute, and even innocent as "souvenir hunters." Is Herman Goring considered a "souvenir hunter" or a "collector" when articles discuss his looting art-work from across Europe? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.140.85.63 (talk) 06:25, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notability & sources

[edit]

The article is lacking sources. The only source at all is a website currently being offline with its name suggesting a extremist background. As far as the notability is concerned, I'm not quite sure what makes person notable. Being a decorated midranking officer in WWII alone is imho not creating notability.--Kmhkmh (talk) 12:40, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.: The German interwiki got just deleted for a lack of notability.--Kmhkmh (talk) 02:24, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The first item of WP:SOLDIER is met. So notability is given. MisterBee1966 (talk) 13:07, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't quite see that, those item are preconditioned by the introduction and the evidence of any significant coverage in independent reliable soures is exactly what's missing here.--Kmhkmh (talk) 21:46, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unreliably cited addition

[edit]

I will remove this recently added material unreliably cited to dubious web sites: diff. K.e.coffman (talk) 05:20, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sourcing this article is proving to be more difficult than I thought. BTW, I hope you also checked on the reference to that 99 massacre, for which I spent some time looking for evidence--and found nothing. Drmies (talk) 19:30, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Drmies: I've also not been able to find much except for brief mentions in militaria literature, and nothing on Tulle, so I believe it should stay out.
On a related note, there's a discussion currently going on the Knight's Cross holders @ Notability (People) regarding Knight's Cross holders: Redirect proposal for Knight's Cross winners. The subject of the article commanded a division (for four days) so it may or may not be a technical pass according to the essay WP:SOLDIER. This could stand a chance of being redirected in the end. Additional comments at the discussion would be welcome. K.e.coffman (talk) 03:21, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the pointer, but has that discussion been going on for months? I see a technical pass, maybe, sure. My secret worry is actually that Wikipedia seems to glorify the Nazi military in the very plethora of those articles; I have noticed that many here in the US have a fascination with that military, and I hope that this does not go at the expense of others. That's one hope I have. So, that discussion, I don't think I have much to contribute, but thanks again. Drmies (talk) 03:37, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Drmies: The one that I linked to is the latest installment, barely a few days old. This is essentially a proposal to redirect articles on otherwise non-notalble KC winners to respective alphabetical lists. This most recent development followed a series of AfDs where about two dozen articles on KC winners were deleted or redirected.
Given the concern expressed above, voicing support for the proposal may be a good idea, as I've been variously accused of "anti-German" & "anti-Nazi" attitudes and being among "one or two editors pushing this issue" in this latest round of comments. More NPOV commentary would be appreciated. K.e.coffman (talk) 03:55, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well, all of us get accused of all kinds of things, don't we. Sidenote--with links to such pages, that have hatted and archived content and all that, it seems I got blown about on the screen like the enamored souls in the second circle. I may have another look tomorrow, from a desktop computer. BTW, if I were called "anti-Nazi" I wouldn't be very offended. :) Drmies (talk) 04:01, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

[edit]

Does not meet WP:SOLDIER as commanded a division for four days. Significant RS coverage not found link, just passing mentions and / or non RS, such as fringe Richard Landwehr. The article consists of recently added unsourced original research.

No de.wiki article exists. Did not hold a significant command and topped out as Obersturmbannführer. Please also see a note at MilHist Talk Archives for background behind the redirect. In summary, per the outcome of the discussion at Notability:People on notability of Knight's Cross recipients: permalink, certain recipients were deemed non notable and WP:SOLDIER has been modified accordingly: diff. The articles of these recipients are being redirected to alphabetical lists. K.e.coffman (talk) 01:10, 12 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
