LDS usage[edit]

"The LDS Church uses the image of the Christus on its webpages"? This was certainly true some time ago. Is this still the case? 80.42.22.170 (talk) 18:28, 19 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes; it's actually been a core piece of the LDS Church's internal & external "branding" for some time now (including pre-internet), so much so that many members of the LDS Church are not aware that the work is not an inherently Mormon, and that it was only adopted by the LDS Church in the mid-to-late 20th century. -- 208.81.184.4 (talk) 23:52, 21 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not known outside Denmark?[edit]

The source for the claim that the statue was mostly unknown outside Denmark before 1896 doesn't actually make that claim, and the work appears to have been cited as a first example of such notice, which is clearly research as it stands, and in any case is probably untrue: 1896 is also the year that the copy at Johns Hopkins Hospital was put on display, so it isn't terribly unlikely that the statue was better known than is claimed here. I'm inclined to strike the whole passage, and for that matter reorganize the whole copy section so that it more accurately reflects the LDS adoption of what was already a widely copied work. Can someone resolve the following conflicting statements re the statue’s creation?:
