• suggest first heading should be "Early life"
• "Personal life" should be moved down - as in Reba McEntire for example.
• likewise "Marriages and family" should be removed and those two sentence put under "Personal life".

   question whether the section "Collaborations" is needed. His biggest collaboration is with Hayden Nicholas, which is under "Career" above and also under "Songwriting". The others can be mention under the relevant "Music career" section.

   any info on how Black and Nicholas collaborated? Did both write music and lyrics, or did Black primarily write the lyrics, or what.

5. Musical styles and legacy (suggested)

   "Musical styles and legacy" section is needed to cover his overall contributions to country music. Here his voice could be described as it never is in the article. His skills as a musician, type of music he played. Any instrumentals? His influence on other performers. etc.

9. Filmography

etc.

• "after singers George Strait and Reba McEntire transformed the genre" - meaning returned it to its early days e.g. George Jones etc.?
• there seems to be little mention of his abilities as a musician. That he played the guitar is noted. But in the infobox it says he played additionally bass, harmonica, keyboards, drums. When did he play these? On his own records, in performances etc. How good was he as a musician?
• Under "Songwriting" - what were the themes of his songs. Sample lyrics?
• apparently his career as a singer has declined? Mostly he appears in television now?
• what were his performances like? Did he have a lot of backup? What instruments/singers backed him up? How big/long were his tours, or did he tour? Did he only perform in Nashville? Was he mostly a recording artist rather than a performer?

Mirror site meaning it mirrors the Wikipedia article? I will have to remove the quote as there is not an additional source now that the link to the Smiley interview is dead.
I did most of the TOC changes and am working on the Musical styles and legacy section. Most descriptions of his voice are long on platitudes and short on descriptions. I am thinking using, "His voice is described as a smooth baritone and was initially compared to Merle Haggard."Tomsv 98 (talk) 17:36, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Yes, the source was using the wikipedia article. I looked around for another source but couldn't find anything. Great that you are fixing the article and recognize the "platitudes" pitfalls! MathewTownsend (talk) 23:00, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

I think the article is in good shape now. You can tell from the history that I've made several edits that you are free to change, interspersed with yours. I think its a good article now.
